Not that I condone the testing of vanity products on animals (although for pharmaceuticals etc., then yes I do support it), but I felt a few things concerning the supposed treatment of the animals needed to be cleared up as I am fed up to the back teeth of animal rights spin ( ... )

this. While I despite cosmetic testing, I can't stand against pharmaceutical testing. I have worked with and known too many people and animals saved by medicine that was, at one point, in the animal testing phase. Even our precious furkids are saved from URIs and other diseases by medicines that were once tested on other rats. These groups don't make that distinction yet will run to the doctor for drugs to help them that were once tested on animals. Besides, how is hurting people (bombing labs, attacking people, terrorism in general etc.) ok ever?

Plus I haven't used Herbal Essences in years.

There are lots of companies that still test on animals unfortunately :( there are only a few that seem to be really strict, like Lush, the guys that make Original source, Barry M & Urban Decay.
