afeared!

I’m applying for a job I really want! I’ve been in my current job for almost 20 years! I’d be way at the top of the UW-Madison nerd hierarchy! What if they don’t think I’m qualified! What if they make me use a Mac!

Ooh. Are you gonna be in charge of DoIT? Will you be the head of the Fuchsia team? The Mauve team?

Nah, nothing that exciting. Office of Research and Sponsored Programs - they handle all the UW-Madison grants. I don’t think they have any colo(u)red teams.

[ Copy / pasted from below ’cuz I don’t expect people to check back to see who’s commented! ]

To be honest I’m not really worried about the qualifications part - I wouldn’t be so excited about the job if I didn’t think it was perfect for me.

The main thing I’m worried about is that jobs at the UW tend to be filled before they’re posted, meaning they already have someone they want to hire before they even post the job online. State law requires them to post the job and interview a certain number of candidates but that’s all a farce and they inevitably hire whoever they had in mind from the get-go. (Not that I’m bitter. :D)

From what I’ve heard / seen thus far though this position is legitmately open and I’ve even been directly encouraged to apply for it by one of the people who will likely be involved in the hiring decision. So I’ve got my fingers super-crossed! (But I’ve probably jinxed myself by talking about the job before I get it. :V)
