Good golly I haven't posted in awhile.
1. The sharp, sweet smell of dried pine and white sage lingering unexpectedly in a small pocket of my carry-on... somebody's crumbled corsage, apparently. Summer smell!
2. Elephant seals HORK-HORKing at each other off the coast, huge and wet and loud.
3. Sunset over the bay and the pond, cypress trees whipping their graceful tips, gulls crying louder than ever, the wild salt smell of the sea
4. ...And now it's school. We still have stained countertops. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN.
Oh good grief, I'd forgotten how exhilarating it is to teach... And just how tired that exaltation can make a body. And exactly how much school piles onto one in the expectation that, oh yes, of course the department's students have scads, reams, oceans of spare time in which to do many, many things while preparing their prospectus defenses, which happen in ten weeks. Nine. WAH~!
If Hermione ever patented that time-turner, I'd have three and she'd be rich and I'd be exhausted all the time still, because I have concluded that it is a flaw in my nature to be, categorically, vastly overcommitted. But hey... the stretchy-bendy class I am currently enrolled in (a.k.a. "the sanity-saver") is there as a definitive reminder to my uptight self to ...dunno, sprawl every once in awhile.
In the meantime, it's good to be back, y'all.
