Weird, granted. However, "Good News for People that Love Bad News" is a totally crap-ass representation of their music. It's a good CD, but all their stuff before 2004, circa mid-90's is so fucking original it's out of control.
Modest Mouse has been around for a really long time, they have four or five albums out...I personally was introduced to them about three years ago. It's pretty trippy and they are definitely an acquired test. So, if you're not gonna like 'em it should at least be for a song other than "Float On!" ;)
Check out the songs "Polars Opposites" and "Karma's Payment." I have the CD's "The Moon and Antarctica" (that came out in 2000ish) and an burdt copy of "The Fruit that Ate Itself."
