It seemed that unforeseen things happened on a regular basis to RyeoWook. At times they were thrilling, while at others, tragic.

He had always felt awkward among his peers, either keeping to himself, or playing the clown to keep anyone from getting any closer to him.

The last time someone had gotten too close, the results were disastrous, and he paid for his foolish desire each day. Replaying the scene in his head grew tiring quickly, and yet, it was oddly comforting, like some bizarre form of penitence.

One evening as he walked home from a job, it began to rain very rapidly. He’d never seen such a thing before, and as he ducked beneath an awning, he was hit in the head by window shutters that had been opened by the bakery staff; and knocked to the ground. When he woke up, he saw a strange woman who told him he must become close to himself. As he left her, he realized something was odd about the woman. She seemed very familiar to him, but he couldn’t place why. He felt as if his memory was blurred.

RyeoWook made it home eventually, though he’d very nearly been hit by a bus, had walked into, and broken a street vender’s cart, and had to pay for all the food that had spilled. Lastly, RyeoWook had tripped on the sidewalk and shredded the knees of his brand new pants.

Yes, the walk had not been an uneventful one.

Home safely at last, RyeoWook moved to his bedroom and stared at his self for several minutes in the full length mirror hanging on the wall.

He stood wondering how he was to become close to himself. The message had seemed so important, and he would have imagined it to be a simple act, but he had no clue where to begin.

Despite people telling him often that he looked plastic, he liked his face, and even more he liked his voice. Weren’t self-confidence, and self-like things that meant you were close to yourself?

He closed the door, causing the mirror to fall from the wall. Thank goodness it didn’t break this time.

After several more hours of thought as to what would bring him closer to himself, RyeoWook fell asleep.

The sleep was not restful; it was one full of nightmares that didn’t make any sense. He saw the woman again. She looked disturbingly familiar. RyeoWook received the same message in his nightmares as he had when he met the woman the first time. Become closer to yourself.

Only more obscurity followed. He dreamt of the night when he and his dear friend went walking. He was one of the first people RyeoWook had felt close to in a long time.

Then a car came screeching around a corner, and RyeoWook slid on a piece of litter that had been left on the sidewalk. He fell into his dear friend, and his friend fell in front of the car, dying on impact.

RyeoWook began sobbing, and it was his sobs which caused him to wake. It had been months since he dreamt of his friend.

RyeoWook rubbed the sleep from his eyes and decided to go for a walk and some fresh air.

He found himself walking down the same street he’d so long ago travelled with his friend.

A car once again tore down the street, and RyeoWook once again found an errant piece of litter and slipped. He was hit by the car, but nothing happened.

He stood, dusted himself off and caught his reflection in a puddle.

It was at that moment he realized the woman who he’d recognized had his face, as did his friend.

Each day he re-lived the same series of accidents. Each day was an endless loop of the last day of his life.
