Good: My awesome friends in E. Montpelier, who raise the pasture-fed pork and lamb that currently grace our freezer, were featured in the NY Times!

Bad: They, like many other small farmers in Vermont, continually struggle to find adequate slaughtering facilities for the animals they raise.

The federal gov't is only a piece of the problem here. The federal one-size-fits-only-giants regulation of slaughter and processing facilities makes it supremely hard to get started and keep operating--but there are also fewer and fewer people willing to do the work. The producers get squeezed from both sides. There is a growing realization of this in VT, and people are really starting to push for more and better small-scale processing operations...but it's taking a long time.
