For a minute there I thought that maybe it was the Gates of Fire movie they were supposed to make AGES AGO...but no.
I would like to see this. Although it's based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller, so it'll probably be extremely stylized. I'd rather see a movie about Thermopylae have more of a real, gritty feel to it. But still, this looks interesting.
Hopefully they're still making that Gates of Fire film. I can't wait.
Well, looking at comments about the film, I've seen mention of a Gates of Fire movie...fingers crossed.
I was thinking about this last night when I should have been sleeping. If you think about it, the Iliad is just one stylised account of a war. Critics treat it with great reverence, even though it is not real. So I like the idea of this stylised telling. What I dislike is when a supposedly accurate film which has done all it can do to make itself look like factual history ignores or plays with the facts.
That's all true. I do like the idea of stylized story-telling. When films have that sort of whimsical, unearthly feel to them...I tend to enjoy that. I guess it's just that I was hoping for a very realistic depiction of Thermopylae, after reading Gates of Fire, but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy this rendition.
Definitely still keeping my fingers crossed on that Gates of Fire film, though. I loved the book, and I'll be sorely disappointed if they chuck the movie idea. Although I heard rumors of George Clooney playing Leonidas, and I'm not sure I like that idea...
I didn't get much petting done. We found out that he'd not been eating properly whilst with my sister so we had to check him over. He was just being a bit of a pain, though...so he's now back with sister and seemingly ok.
Off to Wales...I'll be keeping my eyes open for you when I pass Bristol.
