Now I was wondering...cause I do get to wondering. Does anyone know why Kenyuu/Ukoku/Dr.Nii is in Saiyuki? Yeah he's a villan, a villan with a bunny and a sanzo title. But...why's he there? o_O Minekura-sensei has us know that our four main boys (Goku, Hakkai, Gojyo, and Genjo) are all former gods (well actually Goku sorta still is). That seems to ( Read more... )

*Snuggles and returns the snuggling* It's so curious. In a story every character should have a role to further the story. I just can't grasp what his role is. It would of been easier to pass over him as just 'story-furnature', characters put in storys to populate the background. But Minekura-sensei spent time detailing all about him, even giving him an arc. Hinting to a bet made between Koumyu and Ukoku about Kouryu (Genjo ( ... )

And something else that I just wanted to add... the trinity between Koumyou, Kouryu, and Ukoku makes the theme of this club being all three of them very appropriate. ^^ It makes me happy.

Now, that really is all...

I started going into convulsions when I found that one... probably literally... XD I just remember I was at a friend's party looking at the manga on the floor... and then I started yelling. "He lives!! Koumyou lives!!" (I was already a big fan by then)... but it didn't seem to matter as much to anyone but me! XD

But, if Koumyou has indeed been alive all this time... it raises questions about his moral values and such... I mean... the guy left Kouryu to fend for himself... nearly getting starved, killed, and raped in the process.

Yeah... that wins Bad-Koumyou award..

Which is why I think that Sanzo has gotta kill him in the final fight...

Kill him for real this time...

x.x yeah that was confuseing. It is odd how they refer to him past tense, but then how would Kouryu be a sanzo and inherit the thing on his head and all that if Koumyu 'wasn't' dead. I think he's kicked it, and Dr.Nii's just being a little crazy refering to him as if he's still alive.

I think Kouryu needs to be kept alive to win an important bet. thats why koumyu jumped in front of him and saved him, and why Nii doesn't want to just kill him. -besides the entertainment factor. Sweaty blond running for his life is an awful sexy kink-

The Gyumaoh thing might just be a pet project perhaps, something challengeing to keep his mind busy. He does seem to like challenges.

I think it might all come down to the bet that was made. but that doesn't explain the god forshadowing. Goku's got his own story with nataku that also needs finishing. I don't know how that fits in with Gyumaoh or Nii.

The braid's wrong for Koumyou, though... too much like a pigtail.

And I think Koumyou could pass on the Sanzo-ship because he was about to kick the bucket....

And I agree about the Nataku thing. I think he'll come out at the end - he's just mentioned/shown too damn often to be otherwise. And yeah, I think Ukoku's doing because he's bored. And maybe because of his death wish, you know? Maybe he hopes that Gyumoah will finally be able to kill him...

I agree about the hair not being right, but the pipe is Koumyou's. You don't have to die to pass on the title of Sanzo Priest. The reason behind Koumyou giving the title to Kouryuu so young is because he has this weird divine intuition thingie - can't remember what its called. With that bear attack Kouryuu is showing his strength of mind and will (nothing to do with being a god or stuff). Koumyou was waiting for the day that Kouryuu became strong enough in mind. You get talkings of this through out the series - you have Genjo remembering his master's words of "be strong genjo sanzo" and there he is refering to strength of mind ( ... )

In a way, I think a large part of the explanation behind Nii's presence in Saiyuki is just that Minekura loves that character. She uses him all the time. The most obvious place is in Wild Adapter--if Kubota hadn't met Komiya or Tokitoh, he would be Nii. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind. I even pick up little echoes of that character in Tenpou. Minekura just likes her brilliant, shady bored guy, so she sticks him in wherever she can use him ( ... )

I agree with you whole heartedly Whimsy-san. I still don't think Koumyu's alive. A temple full of monks does prove that, not to mention the fact it's WAY out of character for Koumyu to be that cruel. Koumyu is, as phrased earlier....a goofy stoner type. *sweatdrop* For good sake he makes paper airplanes and smokes all day. I don't think he's up to anything, or anything with Nii. Who ever that was in the tree it didn't look like Koumyu at all. -will eat a crow with Whimsy-san if it is- lol ( ... )

Do you remember the scene at the end of the Ukoku part of the Burial arc? Where he's crying because Godai (sp?) didn't kill him? I think he wants Gyumoah to eat him up.... I think he wants to die, and who else could defeat him?

Ah, yes. Where he's crying because he just effortlessly killed all these guys and no one could stop him. But Nii has changed a lot since then. I think he's gotten a lot more cynical and jaded. I don't think he has a deathwish--I think he's very determined in some ways to survive. But I also think he's a little bit indifferent about it--shit happens, y'know. But I don't think he's hoping Gyuumaoh will kill him. That just doesn't ring true with Nii's character now. Anyway, if Gyuumaoh kills him, he won't be able to have his final confrontation with Sanzo and settle his bet with Koumyou, which is way WAY more important than Koushu and her stupid king.

I hate to break it to you guys but that pic is foreshadow for the demon they face at the end of Deathmatch. It's not Koumyou. Though I wouldn't put it past Nii to clone Koumyou. It would be the perfect way to toy with Sanzo's mind.

lmao forget toying with sanzo's 'mind' there are 'other' things to toy with just a little lower ^_^;;

-side note: Koumyu said he doesn't like to kill so koumyu busting in terminator style and killing nii is really hard to believe-
