Fic: Orpheus Descending

Look, it's the sequel I said I'd write! And it's completely AU now because last night's episode Jossed the hell out of it! (Kripked the hell out of it?) Oh well. I swear I wrote all but the last little section of this, like, two weeks ago. I guess I was seeing a more strung-out, desperate and exhausted Ruby in season 4, product of some fresh, ( Read more... )

In response to your commentary on Ruby:
Ruby 1.5 was inhabiting a human with a soul and a personality. Same with Ruby 1.0, I believe. I believe that a little bit of that person comes out in the character. However, Ruby 2.0 is inhabiting an empty shell of a person. The personality is all her own. "Its all me in here, Sam". So I think the change can be justified knowing that Ruby, possibly for the first time, has a body to herself.

Also, I belive you mentioned that the new Ruby "exudes the same amount of ass-kickery as a wet towel". Now I don't know if you've ever been snapped with a wet towel, but when used correctly, it can kick a LOT of ass. And hurt.

And while I loved the maid!Ruby, keep in mind that some of that attitude (in my humble opinion) belonged to the true inhabitant of that body.

:D

I respectfully disagree. There has been overwhelming evidence from a dozen other demon characters that no aspect of the host body's mind or personality can penetrate the wall of possession. Witness!Meg from earlier this season was very clear about what it felt like to be a living mind inside a possessed body, and she was very clear that there was no way out and no way to express herself. In other cases when a demon has swapped bodies, the performance has been so similar as for any differences to be negligible. MegDemon possessing Sam behaving in much the same way as Meg in season 1, just a little more vindictive after her newly-spent time in hell ( ... )

Ha! Well you have successfully swayed me, my friend. I like to play the devil's advocate, but I will admit it if I am wrong!

I do still believe that a wet towel (albeit weilded by someone) HURTS! :)

I did not read the story, simply because I have yet to read its prequel. I have every intention of reading them both :)

D'awwwww. ^_^ I love writing that kind of short, choppy dialogue of uncertainty, of things people need to say getting in the way of what they want to know.

But you're excellent! And you taught me everything I know. :D

Yeah, I'd almost want to write another story, a redux of this one, that fills in those new gaps... but I think I like this one as it is. And I decided that instead of Orpheus Ascending, like I'd thought about for the third story, I'm going to do Eurydice Ascending instead -- Dean's POV.

I'm gonna echo your mom...you are an amazing writer! Seriously, I don't watch the show, but I like to think I understood the relationships/tone of the characters. Good job!

Awww. And I love your icon! Haha! :D

Yay, I'm glad you liked it. You rock for reading stuff you don't even watch. ^_^
