1. I am allergic to the sun. I was always half-joking when I said that before, and I've always said that. China Mieville is fabulous. Perdido Street Station had some pacing issues, but he'd really got it together by the time of The Scar. Fantastic book. And Iron Council too.

Have you read Un Lun Dun? It's so much fun, he can write in an entirely different style and genre too, and his talent is awesome.

I JUST finished Un Lun Dun! Loved it to bits, especially the whole underlying commentary on the standards of other children's fantasy. Series of pointless quests? Skip 'em. "Too old to return to Narnia" ending? Bullshit, she's coming back next week! XD

I have this tradition of starting Mieville novels in the break before a semester, then getting sucked into school reading. Hence why I was reading The Scar a few paragraphs at a time for nearly 6 months. Not that I mind... I could just float along on his descriptions without even a need for plot. The city of Armada is just so gorgeous in my head. I put off Iron Council so maybe I can actually read it in one go this the summer. *fingers crossed*

"Kraken" comes out close to my birthday. SCORE. :D

Yup :-) And I loved the fact that the prophecies were all wrong, and the Schwazzy was a washout. Great stuff!

Oooh, you're going to like Iron Council. Definitely one to make time for!
