I loved them when I was younger, especially the bookend ones (MN, and LB). I loved the biblical drama aspects (creation/eschatology). But still found the Susan bit weird. I did an ISU on the series, actually.
Can't say I ever read all of them, and it's been many years. I remember really enjoying the first book and not really electing to continue after the second, so... not sure what went on there.

IIRC, Your boyfriend (Neil Gaiman) wrote a story, "The Problem of Susan".
You're probably the only person to read them first as an adult, so you have some decent critical sense.
