Poor Susan

I'm probably the last person on earth to have read the entire Narnia series through for the first time.

I'm also probably the only person on earth to hate them.

It's Susan's fault with her silly lipstick and girliness. She could have died in a nasty train crash too, if only she believed.

IIRC, Your boyfriend (Neil Gaiman) wrote a story, "The Problem of Susan".

You're probably the only person to read them first as an adult, so you have some decent critical sense.

Yes, I have read that short story. How could I call myself his girlfriend if I hadn't?

The whole thing just left a sour taste in my mouth.
What did you think of it?

I loved them when I was younger, especially the bookend ones (MN, and LB). I loved the biblical drama aspects (creation/eschatology). But still found the Susan bit weird. I did an ISU on the series, actually.

In retrospect, Aslan was a dick.

I think I liked MN best.

Ursula Vernon wrote a thing I quite enjoyed, too.

Can't say I ever read all of them, and it's been many years. I remember really enjoying the first book and not really electing to continue after the second, so... not sure what went on there.
