How I spent my Thanksgiving vacation...
Spouse and I started our round of holiday visits last weekend by going up to Grass Valley to visit our godsons, one of whom was having his first birthday. We had a good visit, good turkey, and the joy of seeing Grandpa enjoy the noisemaking toys just as much as the one and three year old. *grin*
On Wednesday night, we left for Portland to spend Thanksgiving with my family. The food was fantastic and the company even better. Some friends of my folks brought a mac 'n cheese bake that was especially good: I told mom to be sure to invite them next year.
Friday morning I braved the early morning chaos to help my mom grab some bargins at the 5am opening of her favorite stores, a trip which turned out to be not only productive, but also rather fun. Shopping, and shopping in crowds especially, is not my normal cup of tea, so I was pleasantly surprised with my ability to just go with the flow and enjoy myself.
Saturday morning Spouse and I went downtown to visit the new urban digs of an old college friend, he's doing really well for himself now after some hard years of finding his path and I left his place quite happy for him.
Saturday afternoon I threw a shower for an old friend and her 3 week old baby girl Jada, and I was pleased we got such a good turnout over a holiday weekend. Said friend will be planning a shower for me in January... ah, the bliss of reciprocity.
Sunday afternoon Spouse visited with a friend from his alma mater while I read all but the last chapter of Robin Hobb's new book, a work which is simultaneously fascinating and off-putting in turns. I will probably do a "book review" type post just about that when I have had a chance to formulate my thoughts better.
Sunday evening Spouse and I shared a lovely meal out with several friends from college, and though we were all overtired, that was probably the true moment of homecoming for Spouse and I, as we relaxed into our old patterns, ate too much, and laughed till we cried. (Or at least till
zehera did.)
Today Spouse got on a plane home, and I will join him on Wednesday, after a few more days at my parents' house. All in all, an excellent trip.
