the piece is beautiful Raven. The rendering on the figure and the cloth, the lighting the gestures. I love the sense that she's caught up in a thought, in her own little world.
My only problem and I know this is just emblematic of doing a portrait for a card, but I would love to have more of a sense of place. I know you wanted that sense I isolation, but in the context of the image...she not isolated from anything....the loss doesn't exsit because nothing else in her world exists. I don't mewan to say you want other people or a whole scene or anything like that. but if the wall behind her had more of a sense of being a wall. with subtle detail that would point to that conclusion( cracks, textures, tiles, patterns of color tiles or mosaic like you might see on a wall in her time period. it would heighten the sense of isolation, simply because you would recognize that she isn't engaging the world around her.

that's just my two cents....
