Ok, so these are almost 2 months late...

but here is the first installment of my concepts for the recent SW Minis set.

i have only prepped/uploaded these 6 to my site so far. i'll post to my LJ when i've put more up.

These are some of my favorites.

i haven't seen any of the mass-production final product yet.

the ones they have on the website image gallery leave a lot to be desired. Especially that Han. oof.

i guess i'll see some of the mass-production ones as well as a set of masters at GenCon, so i'm looking forward to that.

glad you liked the storm trooper helmet. i *think* that was my idea. i don't think it was in the art description, but i can't remember now. those are the types of additions that i like to make, in any case. :)

:) Kinda crazy to see these. Seems like that was a million years ago!

man, that's awesome. i'm not sure i even remember it. it sparked this super super vague sense of recognition when you mentioned it, but i can't be sure i actually ever knew about it.

my mom made me this awesome jawa cake for one of my birthdays. a full stand-up, in-the-round jawa, with hood that hung over, and yellow gumdrops for eyes. :)

Very cool to see these -- they are subtly different than the end sculpts in ways that are, generally, better, to my eye. The wider stride on the tauntaun and Boba not actually looking forward in your sketch are pretty striking. Good to see they kept Kenobi holding his hood down, though.

I admit I'd never really considered what Boba would actually use that backpack rocket _for_. Because yeah, it's awkwardly placed as hell.

it's rare for any of the sculpts to look better (to my eye) than the concepts, for any of the minis (designed by any of the artists). though there are some pretty bad sketches... and some of the sculptors do really good work. (i think some end up doing what the sculpt *should* look like, rather than exactly what the illustrator got across in the sketch)

i liked the little detail of Kenobi holding his hood. :) i'm glad they kept it (i hadn't actually noticed. surprisingly, i haven't gone through the gallery in much detail, though i'm looking forward to seeing the masters at GenCon)

the backpack rocket is pretty wacky. good if you're getting jumped by drop bears or something, i guess. well, one drop bear.

i still wish i could have shown him shooting his knee rockets. i should probably do an illustration of it, just because i imagine it'd be the first. :)

Yeah, the Boba they sculpted, he seems to be kind of looking up and forward, and the rocket appears to be arcing up over his head. In your sketch, Boba doesn't look where the rocket is going -- he just _knows_, because he's f'in Boba. He's too cool to need to aim. While the whole idea is a bit daft, really, he just looks much cooler heads-down.

yeah, i figured since it was impossible to have him looking where the rocket was headed (or at least impossible to make it look even halfway cool and not stupid and awkward)... i'd have him going for the no-look shot. he's about to blast someone else off camera that he took a bead on a moment before, he's launching his backpack rocket at someone else, and he's already assessing his next target.

3 things at once, cuz he's mother fucking *boba fett*.

Um, these are *great*! And I get a kick out of seeing Obi Wan holding his hood down--a splash of humour & reality in a very fantasy world. :)
