resources:

  • i use almost all standard fonts from word™ because i'm not a font freak. occasionally, i download a font from DaFont.

  • i'm sort of a bare-bones icon maker. most of the stuff i need (brushes, textures, gradients, etc.), i make as i go.

  • screencaps:
    • early Goblet of Fire screencaps from teh_indy
    • Jane Austen film screencaps from desert_sky
    • Brokeback Mountain screencaps from wickedripeplum
    • The Corpse Bride screencaps from garishlight
    • Order of the Phoenix teaser trailer screencaps (except for self-capped spellfire series) from hoverbright and from onetimeoffer whose galleries are located here
    • later issue Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest screencaps from oh_cap
    • Titanic screencaps from oh_cap
    • The Incredibles screencaps from oh_cap
  • spellfire screencaps:

more resources will be posted as necessary.

FAQs

what are your usage rules?
rules are posted on an entry by entry basis. the standard rules for icons are:
  • comment if you take (this allows me to see which icons are successful and hopefully make more)
  • credit, please (this allows other livejournal users to find my icons if they like them)
  • not to be hotlinking (because i'm poor and i have a free photobucket account)
all other rules are posted as necessary, such as base vs. textless, wallpapers, manips, etc.

how do i credit?
crediting is easy. when you upload an icon to livejournal, just put my username link in your "comments" section. it takes a maximum of ten seconds and when other users see the icon, they can find my journal if they're curious. crediting has nothing to do with copyright or any of that. i don't own any part of my graphics except the work put into them, and that's strictly a hobby.

do you take requests?
yes, mostly. if i'm not comfortable or capable of fulfilling a request, i'll tell you straight out. i don't icon things i don't know anything about. if in doubt, ask.

can i affiliate with this journal?
if i think our icons/graphics are similar, i'm happy to affiliate. just ask and provide a link to your own icon journal so i can see what you do.

can i friend this journal?
yes!

will you reply to commenters with specific questions?
absolutely. if you want to know where a resource came from or what techniques i used or have a general question about anything you see here, ask. i'll respond ASAP.

why don't you respond to all comments?
i tried that. i figured that commenting was a good faith act and i had an obligation to reply. however, at this point, i'm only replying to questions, concerns, or particular comments. i made this decision for two reasons:
  1. it helps me get a better idea of how many people are commenting on entries without self spam
  2. when i try to respond to all, i get behind and then assault myself with self-loathing
i do read them all, though, as i get email notification of comments and i appreciate them all! (well, except the ones where people tell me ZOMG UR ICONS SUXOR!)

can i nominate your icons for award communities?
sure, if you don't mind me stirring the dust with my toe and saying "oh, garsh!"
do drop me a comment to know what you're nominating and where you're nominating it to. i like to check out how i did.
