Thanks for this. My older brother has Asperger's, and didn't speak at all until after he was four. He was misdiagnosed for years as having Auditory Dyslexia (of course this was before Asperger's was recgonized). I can't imagine how things would be different if he had gotten the right help he needed early.

That's something My mother and I suspect my daughter has, and that I had in some degree as a child. However, due to the bazillion shrinks telling mum "Oh, she has what boys have, we don't know what to do about it", it fell through (we also later found out I have ADD). Luckily I can mimic really well and have, over the past few decades, learned to be how I'm supposed to. I still get really confused and frustrated sometimes though - people confuse the heck outta me. There's a little boy with Aspergers in our church, and Elfbit's a lot like him, so I wonder sometimes if they're not missing something, or does she act that differently at preschool than she does at home, that they don't see what I do?

I'm so glad he got the help he needed early enough to help *hug*

Will you do me a favor? Old Faithful here is not conducive to watching videos on, but I would dearly love the actual link to the video so I can email it to my cousin Boo Boo. Her son is Autistic, and she is very active in fund raisers and what not. If I get the link to her, she'll pimp it out among all her family and friends.

*hugs* I completely understand. And she WILL get better. I wish you could see and hear how much Em has grown and how he can talk and create conversations and play jokes on you.

(And, we too, were recently denied Occupational and Senory Integration therapy for him.)

I pray for your Elfbit every day, and I KNOW she'll get better.

I know, but some days it's just so hard. I see her get so frustrated (and thus tantrummy) about the simplest tings, because she can't tell us what's going on in her mind - and it just breaks my heart.
