Author's Note: I kind of like the idea behind this. Has anyone ever seen this done before? *curious*
Retsu Unohana was tired.
This was no ordinary exhaustion; this was a bitter, bone deep weariness. Perhaps it was a result of all the serious healing she had been doing in the weeks since the Betrayal. However, she rather suspected that the cause lay deeper.
In truth, all of Seireitei, at very least the upper ranks, probably were going through similar feelings. The betrayals had taken a great deal out of everyone emotionally.
She stared at the door, her hand resting on the handle.
She knew she was nowhere near the worst affected. She had not been close friends with any of the traitors. And yet… she was the healer taichou of Seireitei. She was the closest thing that the Gotei-13 had to a human psychiatrist or psychologist. Half of her job was to monitor her patients’ mental conditions. The healing of the mind was just as important as the healing of the body, one learned. Otherwise, disasters occurred.
Disasters like this. She had obviously failed. Somewhere, somehow, she had made a drastic, drastic mistake.
Her hand trembled faintly against the knob.
When had she gone wrong? What should she have done differently? What should she have mentioned to Genryuusai; what should she have investigated more thoroughly? What other illusions should she have seen through?
Guilt weighed down on the slender taichou. It had been a long time since she had made a mistake like this, a mistake that could have- and still might- result in the loss of life. Is that what it was? Had she become arrogant, certain that no one could fool her?
Whatever it was, she would fix it. She would try her hardest to right the wrongs that she should have prevented, even if it came at the cost of her own life.
Unohana softly opened the door and stepped out, closing the door to Momo Hinamori’s room behind her.
