Well, as promised I'm doing another update. I've got a ton of screenshots and stuff on my computer but I don't want to make one really huge entry so I'm gonna keep this one to just Crafting.
For a long time, when I played this game full time crafting was more of a leisure activity for me. I did it when I was seeking on my BLM in the early days, or when I had insomnia and couldn't sleep, or was feeling lazy and didn't want to do anything else. At one point I even got my cooking to 96 before I decided I wanted to level Goldsmithing. Now that I don't get to play much a good portion of my time has been spent crafting. Over the last few months I've de-levelled my cooking and started levelling up Goldsmithing. At first it was really quick, supplies were in stock and I had no trouble quickly getting from 41 to 80 over the course of a couple weeks. Since then however, it's been an uphill struggle between getting supplies and actually selling the products. I'd often go 2 weeks or more with no skillups. I finally feel like I'm nearing the end, though I know I still have several months ahead of me.
Kind of proud that I finally hit 90:
Also turned in my stuff to become a Goldsmithing Veteran:
And obtained my Fool's Gold furniture finally:
Crafting can be really weird sometimes. Even after a ton of crafting levels (all subs but ww now are 60) I still am not sure of some things. Like I'm not sure I believe in the facing a certain direction thing, but I am definitely a believer that moon phase and day affect the outcome. I've seen some really random stuff while crafting though. For example, my main source of income since I got gold to 70ish has been cutting rocks (used to be HUGE profit, now I can cut rocks for a few hours and barely make enough to cover the cost of the rocks and on a good day make maybe 100k profit. Not counting the HQ3 gems of course, since I need those to level so they aren't profit.) and in general it's relatively consistent. The guild only sells 35 of each rock if you come in and no one has bought any recently. I'll usually come away with 10-15 HQ1, 1-4 HQ2 and 0-3 HQ3 rocks. Cutting rocks is a level 20 synth so at this point I'm 70 levels above the synth, and still weird stuff like this will happen:
That's 8 synths, and I failed 5 of them (and lost 4 rocks...) on a synth I'm 70 levels over. I mean that makes no sense at all. And even weirder:
That's another 8 synths, this time 3 fails (only 1 rock lost) and 4 HQ3's... sometimes I just don't get it. Really wish I had been synthing Diamonds that time instead of Topazes, but I can't complain too loudly ._.
Other times, I know exactly what to expect with synthing, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. The following screenshot shows me skilling up clothcraft. I believe at that time I was 8 levels under the cap for the recipe and of course I was expecting some failed synths, but jeez >_>
I couldn't fit any more failures in the screenshot but I think it ended up being 17 in a row... ouch.
And now comes one of the weirdest screenshots from crafting. This picture is what the Smithing advanced support guy in Bastok says when you ask him for advanced support. I swear every time I saw him saying this all I could picture was some poor little Taru bending over and clenching his teeth, waiting to be anally violated by this crazy Galka, prison style.
Well that's all for now, Salvage and Sky adventures coming soon :D
