MMMMmmmm. Your pot plants look either nitrogen deficient or phosphate deficient. Get a home test kit and check to see what it says about your specific situation. Here in SF with almost pure sand as a default, I find I'm often phosphorus deficient. Bone meal makes a HUGE difference. Nitrogen does NOTHING.
I have one of those test kits somewhere... I unpacked and "put it away" a few weeks ago. I agree that SOMETHING is amiss, because the basil looks washed out!
P.S. You have flat rocks. I'm terribly jealous. I have to go dumpster diving for bricks to do anything even remotely similar. At Ukiah house I may need to buy in paving stones such as you have free....
they call them surface stone here, those flat rocks. And yes... I gots them.
They sell this rock in lots from this area, and quarry gravel from the leavings all around me.
I told my mother when I started "making dirt" that I was looking forward to NEVER having to buy gravel again. But as you say, I will also never have to buy rock either.
I am SO impressed with all you've done in such a short time Raven! This place really is a little slice of heaven, hard work and all. How heartbreaking that you lost so many trees because of a miscommunication! I would have been livid and tearful all at once and wanted to kill the kid who did it! I'm glad you've realized that you are in charge of your own pace. Now is definitely your time to choose how you want to do everything you do. ♥
I don't know how you stood the loss of all those trees. Ouch! Yet, you will have a nice large expanse to plant in which will hopefully make up for the mistake. I have enjoyed reading about your homestead and all that you are doing to make it into a home. I hope you will post again soon once you've made more progress on the property.
It was two days before I could get a handle on the shock the loss of trees caused. But, by the time I got there, they were already gone. The dirt guy DID discount because of the mistake, and so far everything has been in my favor. I have to believe that this is in my favor too.

I WANTED what you have, a natural enviorn with a little cabin the middle of it.
Now I have to create in blank space.
However, after three weeks, the oaks are coming up and about two feet tall, so they are set to provide shade.
