HOW TO MAKE CHANGING COMMENTS IMAGES: A TUTORIAL
So. Time for another tutorial no one will use :P Ah well. I enjoy writing them so why not?
okay, things you'll need:
-image editing program
-image host
-this override:
LASTN_TALK_LINKS<=
%%messagecount%% comments post a comment <=LASTN_TALK_LINKS
we'll mess with that later.
---
okay, you need to make an image for each number. NOTE: you need to make an image for zero! It's a long and tedious process, but you want the images, don't you? I only made ten, and i know that'll come back to bite me in the ass later, but oh well.
The images have to be saved in a certain form. This is what lets you use images for your comments links.
they must be saved with a number at the end. for example, for mine, the images were named comments_1, comments_2, and so on. the number MUST BE THERE. can't stress this enough.
okay, once you have all your images made up and saved, toss the same (very important) image host. Grab the URL from one of your images (doesn't matter which one.)
http://jupiter.walagata.com/w/eternityandahalf/comments_0.gif Now, remember this guy?
LASTN_TALK_LINKS<=
%%messagecount%% comments post a comment <=LASTN_TALK_LINKS
put your url in the readlink as an image source and set the border to 0. then, replace the number at the end of the url with %%messagecount%%. remove the 'comments' part.
so, for example, mine would look like this:
LASTN_TALK_LINKS<=
post a comment <=LASTN_TALK_LINKS
this way your message count will change, and thusly change the URL it's using as an image source. So your images will change too! hooray!
you can do whatever you like to the post part of the link--I opted to use another image, obviously.
oh, and if you get more comments than you have images, you'll get a big ugly red X of doom. :/ Unfortunately the only way to fix this problem is to make more images.
if you have a huge number of comments though, you can cheat by making an image for that number and just a few above it. it's a pain, but it's the only work around i've thought of.
questions? comments? help? Just speak up, I'm always willing to listen :)
