From Mary_j_59 over at this Snapedom thread. I couldn't decide which part to bold. The whole middle section needs to be emphasized.

"Another thought about Lily - this one is completely random. Lily, like Hermione, is a bright and talented Muggleborn, and a lot of people have attacked us here because they identify with her and consider Severus a ( Read more... )

It's so odd that such bright women of color could relate to such a pretty person...

One of crazy Snapefen actually said some time ago that Snape experienced "beauty-ism" and that it was as bad as racism.

Btw, I'm thinking about posting this fail and both your responses to unfunny_fandom. Is that okay with you?

That's fine. Thanks! I was actually thinking about it myself, but wasn't sure if it would be too soon.

Wait, is totalreadr actually saying that Emmett Till's murder wasn't as tragic because he was popular and "acting macho"? I mean, seriously?

It could be because I'm still fuming from this, but I think he's having a hard time sympathizing with Emmett Till because he was better looking.

In the end, Lily was murdered because of her belonging to a minority group (and she would have been murdered even without the prophecy). So it's canon that her popularity, relationships, friends, academic success etc. didn't matter one bit when it came to the prejudice she was an object of. I'm a Snape fan and I belong to the ethnic majority in my country, but I can still see that.

Apparently, mary_j_59 doesn't.

What really grates me is that the kind condescending attitude displayed by her is something that I've heard and experienced from other white Americans (who don't have their privilege checked) against POC.
