Oh, I heavily presume p.e. some Star Wars fandom debates have been going on for far longer, HP still has to catch up. :)
Or how about the neverending? controversial "Is Frodo a wuss or not?" ( N O!!1! >:()

Somehow I am even a little touched when fandom things move and/or irk people for very long, despite all Internet (and real life...) annoyance that comes with it. Imho it shows that those aspects really strike a chord with people, it's not just shallow entertaiment for a rainy evening but people feel its connecting to or challenging their beliefs about life itself, and they want to word and discuss those feelings.
Uh, this got pathetic real quick. But I guess you get what I mean.
