seeking balance

It's a beautiful, cloudy Friday on the SF peninsula.  I want to go for a run so badly, I can feel my quads twitching!  I love it when the mercury is below 70 and the weather is holding, however tenuously.  The air smells wonderful with the first rain of the season on its way.  It makes me want to head out for a late season backpacking trip.  Empty ( Read more... )

I've been where you are - the frustration and anticipation (not, by far, the athlete). It was a very hard time, but I learned so much about myself, my spouse and the science. Have you gone to a support group? It was recommended to me, but I never did. There's a national group that I can't remember the name of.

On the plus side, it was when I got into that balanced, less desperate, let God be in charge state of mind that it all finally worked - and she turns 4 this month! Good luck to you. There are a lot of ways to get where you are going, and you will find the one that is best for you. I'll keep my positive thoughts up for you. (I may actually meet you some day if Anne ever gets us both at the same event!)

Thanks for the kind words. It really does help to hear (read) them from someone who knows what is it like to go through a similar experience. I am hesitant to talk to the people around me for a couple reasons...one, they are well-meaning, but I don't want to field casual questions about "how it's going" anymore...and also, I don't want to wear anyone out with the topic. I think it can be hard for most people to understand how it really is truly constantly on your mind, or not far from it.

I haven't gone to any support groups, but we do have some friends who have been great mentors through this process, having gone through it twice themselves...and one of them is a doula, as well. I'm also pretty busy on some of the chat boards on the charting website I use, and that helps a bit, too.

Are you going to make it to Anne's Halloween party? Because if so, then I will finally meet you there! :-)
