The Musketeers: "The Exiles"

The inevitable “three men and a baby” episode. It was bound to happen sooner or later. And yet, the show once again surprised me by taking the well-trod plot and putting a few original spins on it. Namely, that it didn’t waste time with the “ha, ha, look at these useless men trying to cope with a baby!” shtick. Only one of them had any sort of ( Read more... )

Great review. :) Love how you compared part of the ep to Merlin. XD

I know her name was Agnes, but in my head I kept referring to her as Edith from Downton Abbey
Amy Nuttall played Ethel Parks, not Edith.

I’m still waiting with bated breath for a decent Louis/Anne scene where they interact in private
Yeah, we definitely need to see some of that before any more Aramis/Anne stuff happens. I'm fairly clear on how Anne feels about Louis (cares for him, maybe loves, but is not in love). But I've got no idea on how Louis feels about Anne.

Ethel! Yes, that was driving me crazy! People kept referring to her as Edith when I could have sworn Edith was Mary's sister, but I couldn't remember Nuttall's character's name.

Ethel, that's right! Fellowes has a fondness for E names since there was recently an Edna as well.

I must admit, I did find Constance being able to sword fight this early on a bit OTT and not particularly needed but the rest of her scenes were great. It was also nice to see her getting some interaction with Aramis, despite my D'artagnan / Constance love.

The actor playing Louis is doing a fine job.

Re: Constance - I just assumed that she and D'artagnan have been doing plenty of practice in the interim (but yeah, I suppose they could have held off on this "big moment" for a while yet - makes it all the more rewarding when she proves she can hold her own).

"Lets keep it suicidal shall we"

It's all in the delivery. Tom Burke is a gift.

I did like the small scenes between Louis and Anne, referencing the lack of heirs, and his reaction to his mother who had already tried to overthrow him was great (as was the stomping on not being allowed to go hunting!) I do agree, we need more scenes between them.

Definitely. As of this episode, Anne is officially being short-changed.

Oh definitely being short-changed. I know the BBC are addressing the lack of women on their panel-shows, but it would be good if they could also address their unwritten rule of no more than" 2 women in any episode of any given show"
