So last week I went to see The Tempest played at Mona Vale, a really beautiful garden that’s open to the public. I thought I’d share some pictures and brief thoughts as it was such a lovely evening.
The Globes Tempest is supposedly due out in April/May this year. Would have been fascinating to see Ariel played by a woman, even though he/she doesn't really have a sex. I've seen Helen Mirren's take on Prospero, which also works quiet well, but yes, he does tend to sit back and have command everybody else to do his will.
I don't think the fact that Ariel is such an accomplished spirit, and does gain his freedom would have certainly part of the attraction to the role for Colin. (and that Shakespeare certainly looked at figures such as Merlin and others in his writing the character would have helped) Maybe one day he'll play a Gandalf!
