Thoughts on The Fall

Apr 22, 2014 20:17

This has been on my watch list for a while, but learning that Colin Morgan is going to be in the second series sent it right up to the top of the pile (sorry Arrow and Reign, you’ll just have to wait a bit longer). I decided to marathon all five episodes, which possibly wasn’t such a good idea considering I started at 10:30 at night and didn’t get ( Read more... )

after reading this, I AM going to have to watch this again (and I did watch it the first time mainly for Gillian Anderson, and possibly John Lynch as well, but I may just have to watch Orphan Black first!), but also it will be good to watch it in contrast to True Detective, which, although enjoyable and well-acted, treated its female characters horribly - exactly for the reasons Cubitt mentions you need female characters in a story like this. I do worry about all the Tumblr youngsters going out to watch this after hearing Colin will be in it. (and I'm not expecting much of his character, let alone a sex scene or anything of the sort with Stella, he'll be lucky to hand her a report) One thing I took away was, don't have a profile or even a photo on your companies website, really, really lock all your doors, and beware of anybody who likes mannequin's. I do find it interesting though, that after all the male dominated stuff he's done (including Mojo) this is the second (or third if you want to count Quirke, as his scenes were mainly ( ... )

Watch it in one go; it was a fantastic experience!

I agree about Colin - he'll be good, but I doubt he'll be in it much. In fact, I know that of the six commissioned episodes, he's only going to be in the last three.

I think a lot of Merlin fans assumed that their favourite actor/actress would immediately be catapulted into fame post-Merlin, forgetting that the business is constantly in flux and there's almost no such thing as stability for an actor. Personally I think most of them have done EXTREMELY well, especially coming off a fantasy cult show (which always seems to typecast actors more than any other genre) - but they're not going to get starring roles any time soon.

I will try that, although I'm not sure I'll be able to pull an all-nighter. Waiting each week for the next episode was almost torture. Its sad though, that some of what I've seen said about Stella is predictable - she's skeevy, a slut or a bitch, but actually I love her! (as you mentioned, she's not Jayne Tennison with drinking problems, or the girls from Scott & Bailey, she's not border-line aspergers or whatever as Elise is)

You're right, I think a lot of fans didn't realise that the show, and actors are still relative unknowns in a wider sense. I'm no expert but there is a lot of hard work involved, and not everybody is an overnight success. I think Colin mentioned that winning the NTA didn't really open doors for him, but gave him a look through the keyhole (or something along those lines) So, in the main, the cast have done very well - even though Dracula was a disaster, and I only got through 4 or 5 episodes of Black Sails before giving up

Now I want to go back and reawtch this! I saw it when it was first airing, but I'm afraid I've probably forgotten a lot of it. I had no idea Colin Morgan would feature in the second season; now I'm looking forward to it even more!

It's definitely a show that has the capacity for rewatchability. And it'll be interesting to see where Colin fits in (I think his character is going to be on the police force).
