At work, our office manager's had to take time off to care for her child, who it turns out was confirmed as having swine-flu. 30 confirmed cases at his school, which had to shut down. Pupils off sick as you'd expect, but AFAIK nothing life-threatening. Child is now mostly recovered, and office manager is back at work ( Read more... )

Matt and I are both off work today with flu-like symptoms. Everything aches. Lameness!

:( I hope you both recover soon.

I was mostly posting as a heads-up to those of us around pregnant people &/or young kids. Also in case anyone wanted time to stockpile lemsip, chicken soup, or similar magical health-imbuing items.

I love that "stepped up on hygiene when washing coffee cups, glasses" etc - it's like, urm, how were you washing them originally?!

When people are drinking tea/coffee more or less continuously throughout the day, from the same cup, *some* people can be prone to just giving the cups a quick rinse between refills rather than break out the washing-up liquid. If you're lucky.

It might help to remember my profession is made up mostly of guys, with variable levels of house-training. :P

Oh yeah, the work experience girl did that last week, it pissed me the fuck off. OH MY GOD PEOPLE IT DOESN'T TAKE THAT MUCH EFFORT.

Pet peeve. I wash the mugs every time I change the tea.

Although if the mug IS being used by the same person, it's not really a hygiene issue? Just an Aargh Tea Stains! issue.

(We've always had our 'own' mugs, because of catching colds off each other in winter etc. And BossII has a glass teapot-with-one-cup thing. So that leaves BossII, who has the pink mug, seconded by the purple mug, and I 'own' the 'Paul Smith' stripes mug, followed by leopard print. That leaves the 'love' mug free for visitors... /tmi)

My usual rule of thumb is that the cup should look clean before using it. If a rinse does the job then fine, but if there are residual stains then do it properly. At the moment though I'm regarding all drinking vessels as potential breeding grounds for deadly diseases, and going slightly OCD with the cleaning products. Just call me Hannelore. ;)
