So, lilithilian requested photos of my trip. I haven't got ones of me and my mom yet but thought I'd post some pics of the place where we stayed. The Mohonk Mountain House was founded by a pair of Quaker brothers in 1869 and is located about 20 minutes from New Paltz, NY, in the Shawgunks mountain range just south of the Catskills

Whoa! That's incredibly beautiful -- I can't get over the colours in that last picture, that vivid blue lake and those startling reds in the trees. Great photography my dear!

And I can't believe this is a busride from NYC! How long did it take to get there?

An hour and a half by bus, if you can believe it! Its so close. Hell, an hour up the hudson on commuter rail and there are state parks and the Appalachian Trail crosses the Hudson. I hiked that on Labour Day. Its really amazing how close and how beautiful the state parks are.

Hope the DR is keeping you warm :) I'm sitting here in wool socks. a long-sleeved shirt and a fleece! And that's INDOORS!

It looks really wonderful there. Where is that? I'm not good in geography, esp. american geography (and it was one of my main classes in school, but we were allowed to use cards)

The landscape reminds me a little of my home. It's famous for hiking too, perhaps you've heard of the bavarian forest. But I never was really into hiking. Too much nature. Perhaps I should change my opinion.

Yeah, I've heard the black forest is beautiful. On of these days...

The black forest is something entirely different. We are here in Bavaria.

Okay so now I'm REALLY embarrassed. I try so hard to be good with geography- unlike most other Americans- and you've told me you're from Bavaria already. Eep! *takes special herbs for memory*
