Republic County Rehearsal

On Monday nights I have math class until 7:20 pm, so I get to rehearsal late. I am playing the axe murderer Lizzie Borden, but mostly what I do is scream in people's faces and fall down. Yep, every scene I am in is an elaborate fight scene. I've done stage combat before, but this is in a much smaller theater in a much closer proximity. Also, most ( Read more... )

As someone who's been injured in and seen serious injuries in stage combat, I hope to hell you've got a few people in there who actually know what they're doing and have real training. In fact, one of BOOM's worst injuries was an unarmed combat. We were doing a practice on Cathedral Park's beach and one of our combatants slipped on a face punch and broke his partner's nose pretty messily. So, please worry, please take things at *80%* speed maximum (trust me, the audience can not interpret 100% speed fast enough to make that even worthwhile), give each other about a foot of space on close contact punches, and use extends through the elbow once past the point of contact to give the illusion of force without actually putting any in. If no one in your cast knows this, you need to hire someone immediately before one of you gets hurt ( ... )

Thank you for that info! I should have clarified a couple of things. Lawrence is doing the fight choreography, so not only do we have someone who knows what he is doing, but it is someone who I trust completely. The other thing is that everybody involved in the fight is girls. And we "fight" like girls. I guess what I was trying to say was that when I hit that girl as hard as I could, she didn't even end up getting a bruise or a mark from it because I'm such a wuss, as are we all. But I will take your advice to heart as I don't want to be a broken Ravie!

I know that Lacy has read everything, but the committee she has picked to help sift through the scripts has not finished reading yet. Hopefully there will be another read-thru scheduled soon.
