That's really weird. Did you check around outside of the tank? Plecos are pretty well-armoured to be just be eaten by barbs.

Heck, I had one that was dead for a few days before I realized I was just looking at it's "shell". :(

Well if he made it outside the tank (not sure how) he'd've been eaten by dog. That would make more sense I guess.

Wow! I wonder if it's dug into the sand? I once had this blue and orange catfish looking things we called "Bronco" and it disappeared completely for a few weeks. I happened to me moving out of the apartment, and had to drain the tank completely, and as the water reached the the gravel, it started shifting around and lo and behold, there appeared Bronco who had been dug in and hibernating or something. (Not that I've ever known Plecostomuses to do that).

That would be a great relief - as long as I didn't crush him moving things around while trying to find him. :-)
