Question

I know certain people in my life will blame me for having too many commitments or not working hard enough, but I've decided to take a fifth year for a while now. This was how I was planning on spreading out the rest of my courseload, roughly:

Currently done 8 credits, 1 credit to be completed this summer - bringing me to 9 (11 remain to graduate).

i recently talked with my advisor and she told me you need 12 distinct credits with no overlap. i only know this because i was trying to overlap as many courses as possible. you might want to double-check this with your advisor (i've been wrong on more than one occasion).

you seem like you have an organized plan.
i'm incredibly jealous.

I'm pretty certain I'll reach that requirement... How was shopping on Saturday? I ended up staying in with Coplen at my place longer than I expected...

heh...this type of list looks familiar, i am sitting in front of one right now.

my only comment would be is that, can you depend upon credits you need being offered in the summer? (based on past year offerings etc). i know i really can't. you should perhaps think about what you take when based around what is consistently offered (eg ant323 is a dependably offered summer course).

Yeah I know this plan is obviously a rough one and things will change based on what's offerred every session and what I can fit into my timetable. I'm just glad I tried to draft this up.

With the way things are going though, summer 2008 and summer 2009 will probably consist of the most boring courses possible: ANT100Y1 and my science distribution credit. I can count on those being offerred.

that's good, although i personally never would have wanted to be stuck with just the science courses offered in the summer.

for me, book and media studies doesn't offer any courses (and not even anything from our random interdisciplinary group runs in the summer), i have most of my anthro minor and the courses i have left/want don't seem to run and summer selection of french cultural studies is iffy --- i do have "women and power in french society" though.

Fall 2007/Winter 2008 is my fifth year. Nothing is wrong with it.

Yeah I agree I don't see anything wrong with taking a fifth. I wish I could tell that to a family that is obsessed with fast tracking though.

I'm taking a fifth year as well. It has a lot to do with the fact that I brought five electives with me from Queen's, and that I've been on a restricted courseload for the past year, but also 'cause I want to do other stuff, dammit!

Have you logged into degree navigator yet? Because it lays eveything out for you really nicely and visually. You should also talk to a registrar about the overlapping thing. Cheers ~Rach
