“Why are we going again?” he asked her for what seemed like the sixth time in the past hour. Sandy was doing her hair in the bathroom. As soon as she heard that complaint she glared at him from the reflection.
“It’s something to do and you’re supposed to be with me and do stuff that I want to do, too, you know.” After saying that all in one breath she turned her attention back to the mirror and started fixing her hair again. Jared exhaled the deep breath of frustration he held in and walked back to the living room of Sandy’s large apartment.
That night was the premiere of some Disney movie that Sandy told him about over the phone the day before. It was something like a musical, or something, and he knew Sandy loved to watch the Disney Channel. It was something about the pureness of it and all the singing the TV shows had. Or something. He learned to accept that she was into that kind of stuff and not pay any attention.
After all, he tried his hardest to get away from that image. The cute, teeny-bopper, bubblegum pop image he had when he was on Gilmore Girls and that Disney movie he starred in years ago was something he wanted to stay away from as soon as he landed his role on Supernatural. Jared was mature now, in his mid-twenties and working on a well-written television show. And their following didn’t include little girls swooning over them, either. Well, if you didn’t count the countless fangirls that were only known through conventions. But that was different.
Disney had pre-teens who had heart attacks over its stars. Sure, he liked signing autographs and the occasional female fan who asked for a hug or a picture, but it wasn’t something he wanted 24/7.
“Honey, ready to go? I think our ride’s out front.”
Right. The ride to the Disney movie premiere. For pre-teen girls. That had music. And singing. And dancing.
“Ready,” he grinned at her.
Or not.

The red carpet was loud and crowded as usual. Jared posed with Sandy a few times but what he really wanted to do was watch the movie and get the hell out. Somehow.
“Jared? Hon, that’s the cast from the movie over there. We should try to talk to them after, or something.” Sandy was trying her best to lean up and whisper the words into his ear without looking too obvious. He smiled at her and nodded quickly, softly grabbing her by the waist and letting the photographers do their job.
They smiled graciously at the flashing cameras and moved down the red carpet. Suddenly Sandy rushed out from his side and went over to what Jared knew was the cast of the movie.
So much for waiting after the movie.
There was a girl that had dark brown hair that hung in curls down her shoulders, a curly headed kid making silly faces at the cameras, a blonde-headed girl with her arms around another cast member, a blonde headed kid who was extremely pale, and a young guy that had bright, sparkling, deep blue eyes and a smile that Jared found incredibly adorable.
He shook off the urge to go over and possibly molest him, joining Sandy where she was chatting with one of the cast members.
“.. and this is my boyfriend, Jared.” He caught the end of Sandy’s quick introduction and tried his best to smile at all of them, catching the eye of the incredible blue-eyed boy that was off to the side. Jared almost smacked himself when he figured out who he was. He was the guy in that Hairspray movie Sandy made him go see weeks ago. Jared wasn’t for all that singing but just seeing that kid lick his hand was enough to make him hard instantly.
He thought about those hips thrusting in all sorts of obscene ways and smiled.
“Hey man, I’m Zac.” The kid smiled hugely at Jared and extended his hand for him to shake. Jared was caught off guard by the invitation and took it, shuddering at how warm Zac’s hands were.
“Hey,” he said with an equally as big smile. Jared couldn’t believe he was getting this excited over some young kid he just met but he didn’t want that warm tingling feeling to go away.
Zac was definitely the epitome of a teenage heartthrob. He had brown hair that shined just as much as his eyes and smile did, his tanned body was in perfect shape, and his lips were pink and full, inviting almost.
Half-conscious of the moment he was in, he missed the part when Zac walked up and tried to talk to him over all the commotion of the event.
“Hope you guys like the movie, I know you’re probably wanting to be somewhere else right now,” Zac’s amused voice filtered through all the noise and chaos around them, the air when he spoke hitting Jared’s neck, warm and ticklish.
“No way.” Jared replied, jokingly. Zac laughed at that, a full smile gracing his perfect features.
Jared knew trouble when it laughed like that.
//
When the movie was over, the after-party was in full motion. Jared mused silently that Disney finally knew how to throw a party after all those years. Even though their parties usually consisted of a variety of non-alcoholic beverages and pre-teen girls dancing to remixes of classic Disney songs. It was still a party, and Jared liked parties. Minus the 13 year-old girls asking for his autograph which entitled him to sign Love, Dean about a million and one times. Whatever.
The movie was actually really good, he thought. But maybe it was watching that kid Zac thrust his hips all over the place that made him enjoy it. He didn’t sing half bad, either.
Yeah. That was definitely it. Jared had to keep from jacking off right there in front of all those girls with their wide-eyed expressions watching their favorite movie of all time. The movie didn’t really need to have that many close-ups of Zac, but that’s how much life hated him. And on top of that? He was made to go to a Disney Channel after-party just to watch Zac look gorgeous and beaming at everyone except him.
“You haven’t talked since the end of the movie, what’s up?” Sandy asked, looking up at him. He shook his head.
“I’m fine. Maybe I’m just tired.” She smiled at her boyfriend’s attempt at lying to her.
“Mind if I go over and say ‘bye’ to the cast before we go? I know you probably want to go to home but I want to do that and we can go.” Jared nodded.
“Of course. C’mon, we’ll both go.” He really just needed an excuse to get over to that sexy Zac and give him his best. Whatever that meant.
The music changed from something poppy to some form of techno, Jared noticed.
“Hey, guys!” Sandy wrapped her arms around one of the brunettes of the cast, who Sandy introduced earlier as Vanessa something-or-other.
“Hey!” The brunette laughed as she hugged her back. “This is Monique, Ashlee, Corbin, Lucas, and Zac,” she motioned to all of her cast mates excitedly and they waved hi to the couple.
“Nice to see you guys again,” Jared directed his smile at Zac. The younger man flushed a little and nodded.
“Yeah, same here,” he spoke over the music.
“So I was thinking,” Sandy spoke to Vanessa when Jared noticed all but Zac bound away to go do more interviews. Or so he guessed. He was too busy “not” watching Zac and trying not to stare so obviously. The kid was gorgeous.
“What do you say, babe? Keep Zac company while we go out shopping all day tomorrow?” Sandy’s playful but pleading smile made Jared want to seriously laugh. Why would he say no?
His grin stretched and he glanced over to Zac. “Up to you,” he put his hands up in surrender and chuckled when Zac returned the gesture, boyish grin and all.
“Sounds like fun.” Zac replied, a twinkle in his eye matching that infectious smile.
Fun indeed.
//
“What do you mean why didn’t I ask you?” Vanessa asked incredulously as soon as she got into the limo that would take them back to their hotel.
Zac huffed slightly. “I don’t even know who that guy is.”
Vanessa laughed. “You know you scrunch your nose up when you get all flustered like that?”
“Shut up,” Zac tried to sound mad but failed, “it’s not funny. And you’re totally avoiding the problem.”
“What problem? Tomorrow me and Sandy are going shopping. She’s a huge fan, not to mention an actress, and seems like a really cool person to be friends with. We should be so lucky to know them. Her and Jared.” As soon as she said his name Zac felt an electric spike of excitement run up his spine.
That sexy smile, and those hands. God, were they huge. What they were capable of, Zac couldn’t and wouldn’t allow his mind to process.
“I think it’ll be fun,” she continued, “you’ll get to know Jared, and I’ll get to know Sandy. Who knows? Maybe we can all be friends.”
Zac’s nervous smile lasted a minute, his hand squeezing Vanessa’s.
If fun meant having confusing feelings towards someone else’s older, hot and male boyfriend, then he wasn’t so sure about a lot of things all of a sudden.
//
The doorbell to Jared’s apartment rang once. Then twice.
“Coming! Okay, Jared, where are you?” Sandy called out, slipping on some high heeled flip flops.
“Sweetie,” Jared’s voice came from the kitchen, “calm down, these aren’t high class European leaders coming to visit, just some kids.”
“Whatever, Jared, don’t call them that.” Jared rolled his eyes at his girlfriend. “And they’re actors, like us.”
“Really? I thought you said that they sing and dance.” Jared smirked before he took a drink of his beer.
Sandy glared at him. “And they’re friends. So be nice. Are you wearing that?” She pointed at Jared’s shirt.
He looked down then back up at her. “Yeah. ’S my favorite shirt, why?”
Sandy shrugged. “Thought you’d want to be more presentable, is all.”
He scoffed.
It was an old dark gray t-shirt that his momma gave him a few years back. It used to have words on it, but they faded along with the shirt itself. Jared pouted to no one in particular.
The door clicked open and he heard two female voices murmur excitedly. Setting his beer down he walked out of the kitchen toward the front door. Jared stopped to a halt when he saw Zac, crouched down and scratching behind Harley’s ears while Sadie wagged and yelped her happiness at the strangers. Zac’s adorable laugh rang through the apartment as Sadie jumped up and knocked Zac the rest of the way to the floor.
The dogs seized the moment to tackle him and his happy laughs and murmured ‘good dogs’ didn’t phase the two girls at all. Jared watched with complete amazement at how good they got along. He walked the rest of the way up to Zac, grin friendly and wide, hand outstretched.
“Hey,” he said, “welcome.” Zac glanced up from under his bangs and Jared noticed how striking his blue eyes were. He got up sheepishly from his position on the floor.
“Thanks, yeah, cool place you got here,” he motioned around the apartment. Jared nodded.
“Yeah, I try.” Seeing Zac’s bashful smile made Jared’s heart speed up a little.
“Okay, boys,” Jared couldn’t help but notice how motherly Sandy’s voice got sometimes, “we’re off. Have fun, we’ll be back later tonight.” Sandy was out of the door with a quick smile and peck to Jared’s cheek. Vanessa waved bye to Zac before following her out.
“So, I guess it’s just us now.” Jared tried to sound cheerful but it came off as more him just stating the obvious. Zac nodded, a tight smile on his lips. Jared panicked a little. He knew nothing about this kid, just that he liked to sing and dance in movies. And the fact that 13 year-olds across the country wanted to marry him.
“Uh, so how old are you?” Jared asked as he walked to the kitchen, Zac following closely behind.
“Nineteen,” Zac replied, sitting down at the island in the center of the kitchen, feeling a little nervous all of a sudden.
Jared nodded. “So, you don’t drink or?”
“No,” Zac said a little too quickly, “I mean,” he grinned shyly, “I do. Just not a lot. You know, images and all that.” Jared crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow in surprise.
“You serious? I mean, in your down time. Do you drink with your buddies?” Zac felt himself flush and he hoped Jared didn’t notice.
“Um, yeah, of course,” he couldn’t believe how he pretended to drink because Jared intimidated him with the questions. Not to mention those bulging biceps. He swallowed thickly as Jared pulled a beer out of the ‘fridge and cracked it open, handing it to Zac. When he took the drink their fingers touched, a spark of electricity running up Zac’s arm and almost making him drop the bottle. He really hoped he was the only one who felt it.
“Wanna play some video games or something?” Jared nodded over to the spacious living room. “Or is that against the Disney Channel, too?” he joked. Zac laughed lightly.
“No, it’s not.” He smiled at Jared. Jared’s friendly grin made Zac feel a weight come off his shoulders.
“Okay, let’s play then.” He walked over and sat down on the floor, pulling some games out of the stand near the TV. Zac watched Jared and was reminded of the dogs earlier. He pursed his lips trying to stifle a laugh from spilling out, finally walking over and clambering down beside him.
“What do you have?” Zac asked, setting his beer on the center table. He looked around the apartment, envying how big and comfortable it was while he was stuck in the hotel with the cast. He wished one day he could have an apartment like the one he was in.
“We got all the Halo’s, Medal of Honor, Guitar Hero -- ”
“Oh my god!” Zac ripped the box out of of Jared’s hands to get a closer look, “you guys have the new Dance Dance Revolution. Man, I’ve been looking for this forever, or something.” He turned to Jared just to see the biggest smile on his lips, which might’ve looked scary if it wasn’t so damn distracting. “What?” Zac asked hesitantly. Jared snorted.
“Dude, I didn’t even know we had that. You can have it.”
Zac’s eyes widened as he tried to hide his excitement.
“Seriously?” he asked. Jared shrugged nonchalantly turning his attention back to his video game collection. Zac smiled to himself and got up, going over to one of the game stations and turning it on.
A flurry of noise and beats came from the TV just then. Jared looked up to see Zac doing all sorts of moves, stepping from side to side. He couldn’t help but snort which turned into a laugh. Zac glanced back at him quickly. “Dude, you have got to be kidding me!” Jared managed, erupting into his infamous loud laugh and squeezing his eyes shut to try and stop.
Zac shrugged, “This is fun, I don’t even care that I look like an idiot. You’re serious you never played this before?” he asked, still hitting all his marks and not breaking a sweat at all. Jared stopped giggling, a laugh playing on his lips and watching Zac shimmy his hips to the techno beats.
“No, can’t say I have,” he replied. Zac managed to chuckle a little and finish the song. “Wow,” Jared got up from his spot on the floor, “you got the highest score. Look.” He pointed to a list of only three names: SandraM., MikeR., and ChadMM. He shook his head. His friends and Sandy obviously had no lives if they were playing this.
“I guess some other people played, but I don’t see your name up there,” Zac said as he entered his name in the game’s scoreboard. Jared starting laughing lightly again.
“You wouldn’t catch me dead dancing. Not for video games.” Jared walked over and sat on his couch, taking interest in his beer again. “You’re supposed to shoot guns at aliens and shit, not dance the Robot and get points for it. It's not challenging enough.” Zac rolled his eyes.
“Whatever, you can’t say that if you haven’t tried. It’s fun.” Jared shot him a questioning look. “Seriously. C’mon, I set it up so it’s two player.” Zac smiled at him, a look that said I know you can do this, do it for me? clearly showing on his face. Jared gulped a little.
“I don’t know, man,” he said, “I don’t really know how to -- ”
“I’ll teach you.” Zac’s earnesty made him want to go over and kiss those full lips. Jared shook his head.
“Okay. Fine.” He got up, and Zac stepped aside.
“Okay, now,” Zac was explaining, “you put your two feet here, and here. When the song starts, there’ll be arrows that come down. They point in the direction of where you need to step down on, like up or down,” he was pointing to the arrows underneath Jared’s bare feet. “Kinda get the idea?”
“Yeah, dude, get out of the way, the song’s starting!” Jared exclaimed with a laugh and sort of pushing Zac out of the way.
Zac grinned at him, feeling a blush creep up his neck. Maybe coming here wasn’t going to be so bad.
//
Hours later they were still playing the game, laughing and shouting things to try to make the other person fail. Jared noticed Zac was incredibly easy to talk to. Not to mention adorable, with that boyish charm and flirty pushes and shoves. He decided to go along with whatever it was and just hope for the best. Whatever Zac wanted, it was up to him to make the first move.
Taking turns playing the game worked up an appetite, Jared noticed, so they ended up eating all the candy out of the bowl on the center table. Noticing the lack of food and not wanting to prepare anything, (Jared was a lazy bastard) he opted for the secret candy stash in the kitchen’s cupboard. The gummi bear jar in the living room needed a refill, anyway.
“It’s your turn, man!”
“I know, getting more candy.” Jared looked in the cupboards and found gummi bears, Snickers, Air Heads, Blow Pops (which just made him grin mischievously when he saw them), Sour Patch Kids and gummi worms. He shrugged, pulling all the candy out and piling it in his arms.
Jared dumped the contents on the center table and Zac snorted, chewing on one of the last gummi bears.
“That’s a lot of candy.”
Another shrug, which Zac took to mean he didn’t care that a guy his age owned all that sugar. Jared pulled an Air Head out of the bag and handed it to Zac, who took it and quickly ripped it open, folding the blue candy in halves then finally putting it in his mouth, chewing thickly.
“Is it good?” Jared laughed, seeing Zac’s amused expression. Zac smiled, nodding.
“Awesome,” he managed through chews. Jared threw his head back no longer being able to hold it in, a good deep laugh rumbling its way out of his throat, and Zac gulped the candy down faster than he would’ve liked. Seeing that neck arch made him want to lick it. Or something equally as embarrassing.
“You alright?” Jared was asking and patting him hard on the back. Zac nodded, coughing as his throat tried to push the candy down.
“Yeah, I’m good,” Zac tried to laugh it off, coughing a little after. Jared managed a small smile, his dimples making their way out and -- Jesus, Zac thought absently.
“Good. We gonna play now, or what?” Jared stood up, taking his place on the game mat, stretching his arms out and doing dramatic exercises. Zac chuckled.
“Let’s hope your preparation gets you the high score, there, Big Guy.” Zac smiled up at him from the couch, unwrapping a Blow Pop and sticking it in his mouth.
Jared looked back to see Zac’s full lips wrapping around the Blow Pop, the pink tongue licking at it and sucking, the scene looking way too obscene to be real, with blue eyes burning a hole through his.
“Yeah,” he mumbled, turned on completely, “just might beat you down, Efron.”
Zac just winked at him.
//
“Dude. What are you doing?”
“What does it look like I’m doing?”
“I don’t know, you tell me.”
“It’s just something else to do.”
“I’m not sure -- ”
“C’mon. It’ll be fine.”
Zac smiled, taking out Dance Dance Revolution and putting in another video game. This time it was --
“No way!” Jared exclaimed, picking up his fifth -- maybe sixth? -- beer and getting up. “I don’t do karaoke, 'm not drunk enough for that. No, no, no,” he shook his head. Zac was in a fit of laughter on the floor.
“C’mon! It’s not that big of a deal.” Zac held up the mic, one that hooked up to the system. Jared wondered why he let Sandy talk him into buying that game for her. “We can sing Led Zeppelin, or something, if that makes it any better.”
“Oh, now I want to play,” Jared replied sarcastically. Zac glared at him, then turned back to the game, selecting a song. It happened to be one Jared knew, an old Beatles tune. He sat down, a little tipsy. He knew Zac was too. After all, they consumed the contents of the candy Jared kept in the kitchen, all the ice cream Sandy bought that she’ll probably yell at him later for, and a couple beers. Jared was on his third, he guessed, and Zac was starting to show signs of drunkenness after only two. Zac was also on a sugar high. He figured he was after requesting more candy even when Jared told him they were out. Twice.
Definitely a lightweight, Jared thought. He watched as Zac sang, quite incredibly, his rendition of The Beatles. The song ended and Jared clapped his applause, Zac bowing slightly and falling on the floor. He erupted into laughter again, Jared rushing to his side to see if he was okay.
“Watch out,” he said playfully, “there’s a rug there, you know.” Zac nodded, a flush appearing as he quieted down a little.
“I think I’m drunk, man,” he said, his blue eyes striking and a smile playing on his reddened lips, probably from singing and eating all that candy. Jared chuckled then, subconsciously lifting his hand and brushing brown bangs away from Zac’s face.
Suddenly he felt the hard press of lips against his, his breath catching in his throat. Jared forgot for a split second where he was, the kiss making him breathless, and he kissed back just as urgent. He felt a hand rest on his waist and his own hand reached up, twisting in the hair it found. Then he heard a soft moan from somewhere and pulled away quickly.
Zac stared at him, his lips red and his mouth open, panting slightly. They didn’t say anything for what seemed like minutes. Then Zac spoke.
“’M not gay,” he rushed out, eyes widening and suddenly vulnerable. Jared shook his head.
“Me neither,” he replied, just as softly as Zac had spoken. Jared was at a loss for words, wanting to continue to kiss that kid’s mouth until it hurt, or just get up and pretend like nothing happened. It was better than not speaking at all, he decided. But Zac made the choice for him.
Zac closed his eyes and met Jared’s lips again, this time more tentatively. There it was, the action that spoke louder than words. They could chalk this up as a drunken dare later.
Jared opened his mouth and allowed Zac’s tongue access, letting his hand fist in his hair, his mouth pressing back hard. Zac moaned a little, and Jared felt himself get hard, it turned him on to hear that helpless moan escape the kid's mouth. It was almost as if Zac was trying to keep the words from coming out. Zac mapped out Jared’s mouth with his tongue, earnestly licking into his mouth. He let himself be pushed down further on the floor and Jared covered his body with his own. Soon they were flush against each other and Jared took control of the kiss, his tongue pushing apart Zac’s lips and finding its way inside.
It was like eating candy all over again, Jared noticed, the sweet sugar rush of flavors hitting his tongue full force and making him want more. The sharp sweetness of the Air Heads, the dull sugary taste from the gummi bears, and the warm vanilla flavor he loved so much. Even more when he was tasting Zac. Zac’s hand rested at Jared’s hip, his mouth opening and Jared took that opportunity to bite at his lower lip, and a desperate whimper escaped from the younger man. Jared was lost in his mouth, nipping and kissing all corners of his lips, trying to memorize every section. Zac thrust his hips up a little, the friction causing Jared to moan out. Jared met the next thrust of hips and Zac pulled Jared back for another bruising kiss, Jared’s head spinning and his cock hardening quickly. They pulled apart, breathless and wanting, Zac’s hand wrapping around Jared’s neck, holding him there.
Jared couldn’t take it anymore; he attacked Zac’s neck, licking down from ear to collarbone, mouthing along the tanned skin and tasting him while Zac continued his slow thrusts upward, their skin heating up quickly.
“Gonna.. come,” Zac muttered, “like this.” Jared pried his mouth away from Zac’s neck, looking at him briefly then returning to his spot.
“Don’t care,” Jared groaned out, not even caring that this was how they were both going to get off.
“No,” Zac sounded breathless, and Jared wanted to smack him for being stubborn, “want to..” he moaned when Jared thrust down, “come with .. you.” Jared stopped his ministrations, quickly straightening up a little to undo his belt, the zipper coming down. He looked down at Zac and almost held his breath.
He was panting, his face flushed and eyes blue and piercing, his pupils blown wide in lust, and the outline of his hardness visible in his jeans. Zac wasted no time and followed suit, unzipping his jeans, waiting for the next move. Jared lowered himself back down and looking into Zac’s eyes, asked permission. After a quick nod, Jared wasted no more time. He reached into Zac’s jeans, liking the fact that he went commando, and pulled out his cock, already leaking with precome. Zac moaned, then immediately went for Jared’s pants.
“No,” Jared muttered, “want to get us both off,” he was struggling to keep breathing. Zac nodded helplessly.
“C’mon, Jared, just do it, want you so bad,” Zac was almost pleading with him now. Jared shut his eyes briefly to try to keep from coming too quickly.
He reached into his own jeans and pulled out his cock, smearing the head with the precome already forming there. After adjusting their bodies slightly, he took both cocks into his hand, pumping once. Zac moaned, his back arching and his eyes shutting tightly. Jared opened his eyes, wanting to watch Zac as he continued to pump his fist hard.
“Want to.. see you.. come for me,” Jared managed between grunts, his eyes threatening to close in complete pleasure. Zac was muttering things while holding onto Jared’s shoulder, thrusting into Jared’s fist.
“Fuck,” Zac whimpered, finally opening his eyes and locking with Jared who continued pumping his fist over their cocks.
Jared couldn’t take watching him completely immersed in ecstasy. He buried his head in Zac’s neck, breathing hard and sensing the hot feeling in the pit of his stomach start to build up quickly. He knew he wasn’t going to last long, he wanted this since he met Zac and now it was too much to handle.
“So.. close, Jared,” Zac held on to Jared tightly, his body thrusting up, meeting every other pump of his fist. He lifted his head, catching the younger man’s eyes and crushed his lips to his, body going erratic with need. Zac kissed him back just as frantic, then without warning came hard against Jared, ripping his mouth away and groaning. Jared felt Zac thrust up and come all over his hand, moaning his name out, and that was it. He grunted out his orgasm, thrusting his cock into his fist once, his come spilling over his hand and landing in between them.
Zac was panting hard, Jared noticed, or maybe it was the both of them. He wasn’t sure. Jared tried to get up but just fell back down, his arms failing him. Zac’s laugh made Jared instantly smile.
“You know you’re heavy, right?” he asked, most likely amused beyond belief.
Jared shrugged, his head laying against Zac’s chest. “Yeah.”
Another laugh. Zac slid his hand out from under Jared’s chest where it dragged up Jared’s shirt a few moments ago, moving across his sculpted stomach.
“I think we should get up now,” Jared said, moving his body. He lifted himself up, making sure to zip up his jeans as soon as he was on his feet and lent a hand to Zac, who was still on the floor. He took it, getting up and zipping up just as Jared did. Jared tried to keep from losing it completely as he stared at Zac.
“What?” Zac asked, flushing a little.
Jared pointed to his shirt. Zac glanced down quickly, seeing his shirt wasn’t pulled down and he had drying come on his stomach. He chuckled.
“Wow, thanks a lot,” he said. Jared nodded, his smile mocking.
“No problem, man,” he replied. Zac smirked from under those brown bangs.
“So, were you really drunk?” Jared asked him, getting straight to the point. Zac looked up, surprised.
“Yeah, w-why?” he asked, a noticeable stutter in his voice, then walking up to the kitchen he ripped a paper towel from the roll, wiping himself down. Jared shrugged, going over to do the same.
“Just wondering,” he said.
“Were you?”
Jared looked straight at him. “No,” he said. Zac blinked a few times. Then, out of nowhere, he smiled. That look told Jared all he needed to know.
//
“We’re back!” Sandy yelled as she came through the door, bags in hand and Vanessa trailing behind her with similar bags. The only difference between them was that Vanessa looked genuinely.. tired.
“Hey, guys,” Jared called out, “we’re in here.”
Sandy looked around, seeing the kitchen and looking from one side to the other, when Jared poked his head up from the couch, a mischievous look on his face. She rolled her eyes, the typical reaction he was usually given.
“You could’ve told me you were hiding, hon,” she called back to him. The girls walked over to the living room, setting the bags down as Jared and Zac stopped their video game. Jared let out an exagerrated breath.
“Jeez, did you guys buy the entire store, or what?” he said, his eyes widening when he saw the large bags.
Zac snickered beside him. Vanessa shot him a look.
“Pretty much,” she spoke up before Sandy could, “I think we’re banned from the mall.” She slumped down on one of the arm chairs. Sandy giggled.
“I think we’re alright,” she said, “but I think I taught Vanessa something as far as real shopping goes.” Vanessa smiled, her mouth opening in surprise.
“Whatever, I totally got more stuff than you did.”
Sandy grinned, patting her on the knee. “Sure you did.”
The two girls laughed then, their mini-girl-fight ending quickly. Jared cleared his throat.
“Well, in case anyone was wondering, me and Zac had a lovely time,” he said, nudging Zac with his knee. Zac tried to hide his flushed look by smiling.
“Oh, yeah, awesome,” he said.
“Jared didn’t bother you too much, did he?” Sandy joked, and it was Jared’s turn to act hurt.
“Thanks a lot,” he pouted.
“No, he was -- ” Zac said, his mind going to complete dirty, dirty places, he smiled, “it was fun. We should do this again one day.”
Vanessa nodded, “Yeah, totally.” Sandy beamed, looking happy as ever that she made new friends. She looked at Jared, those same brown pleading eyes staring at him.
“We’d love to hang out with you guys again, right?” she asked. Jared shrugged.
“Yeah, sure,” he said, trying not to look over-excited.
Suddenly Vanessa started making plans with Sandy, gathering their things and heading to the door. Jared looked at Zac, trying to gauge his reaction to the news.
Even though Zac just winked, giving him that damn grin again, he knew that it wouldn’t be the last time he’d see him.
And that was good enough.
For now at least.
end.
