THE FAA CALLED!!!!
...and if you think for one minute that means my life has finally settled then you obviously don't know me very well. So let's do a blow by blow just so everyone gets the full effect of my day yesterday.
Lunch time rolls around and I am lonely, so I get on the phone and start calling people. Called Mom, Dad, my brother that is not in Iraq, my sister in California... My roomie was in a meeting so I knew not to call her, but no one else was answering the phone either. It was really depressing. So I sat around and at a quiet, leisurly lunch... NOT!
Actually, there was a bit meeting going on in the conference room right by the lunch room. As I sat their with my lunch and everyone under the sun came by and asked me for stuff. I kept telling them all that I wasn't really there, that I was a figment of their over-active imaginations... they weren't impressed. After about 20 minutes of that I moved to the upstairs lunch room by my bosses office. A few minutes later my darling father called.
Can I just say here, that I love talking to my dad. We can talk for hours and hours about absolutely anything. Anyway, we talked for a while and suddenly SuziQ called... so I told dad I had to go, not telling him why and switched over to talk to her. Suzqi and I chitchatted for a few minutes and suddenly I got a phone call with an extention I didn't recogize. On a quick glance it looked rather like the area code for Tooele, Utah so I thought it was my bank calling about my truck loan. I tell Susan I've got to go and switch over.
"Hello?"
nothing
"Hello?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I thought it was a recording. Is this Jessica?"
"Yes."
"Hi, this is Patt from the FAA."
"SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Okay, I really didn't sqee all over the poor lady... but I was thinking it.
She tells me that she has 6 openings in Oakland California. I ask her about LA, but she says at this time there are no openings there and then asks if I am interested. Well, duh. I ask her when I start and she says she thinks the 1st of October, but is not sure and it may be the 4th. Then she tells me she's not even the lady from the HR department in California, but is instead the lady over the entire division in Seattle. Even more impressive... she doesn't even know where Oakland is. *grin* Oh, well. Can't be too picky I guess.
So I ended that conversation on a high note ... however, as I am right by my bosses office, chances are she heard the whole thing. Since I was going to tell her anyway, I decided to get that over with. Honestly the conversation went really well. She was very flexible with me as to what my last day was going to be and said she appreciated me being honest with her right from the start.
It was now time to call the world.... That took forever. As I said earilier, the world wasn't answering their phones. I still haven't talked to my sister in California. Susan was a bit disappointed that we weren't going to LA, but we discussed it later and personally I think she is going to like San Fran. Dad instantly started to make plans as to how this was going to work, which was fine because I was so far out of my mind planning was the very last thing I was capable of doing. Getting through the rest of the day at work was a challenge.
Finally got a hold of my mother. It turns out she was in a training meeting. Finally got a hold of Cal. Turns out she wasn't at work. I really should have known that. *shrug*
As soon as I got off work I called the number I was given for the woman in California who was suppose to coordinate this. She tells me that I am not going to San Fran, but am actually going to Oklahoma City for training, and that I need another medical done as well as an updated Security Clearance.
WHAT!!!!!?
My life has just changed again. SuziQ is understandably thrilled. NOT! Suddenly, instead of going to San Fran she is going to stay here for several more months while I go through more training. After some calming down we both determine that she cannot stay in the condo we are currently in for that long and we still need to move her out before the 1st. So we spend the next several hours checking out apartments around Manassas and updating my parents. I finally got a hold of my brother and my grandparents who are told I am going to OK for a while and we also update Cal.
About 10:00 I get ahold of my roomie from the MARC program. That's the program I graduated from to qualify as an ATC. I tell her about the medical, security and ATC. Now Cheryl has become the hub of all information concerning the school and she tells me that one other person has been hired from the class and she thinks Debbie did not need to go to OK or do anything else as far as updating clearances go. She is going to call one of the other guys whose father is an ATController and get back to me tomorrow.
So let's review shall we? The only piece of information that has not changed since getting the initial 'we are hiring you' phone call, is that I am hired. SuziQ and I decide that we are not going to call the entire world and tell them that it is possible I am not going to have to go to OK until we know for sure... however we do call Mom and let her know.
At this point I decide it has been a day and go to bed. So here it is, a new day, and I am all eager to see what changes this will bring.
