“The agony stands still, as the night is still young.”
The agony stands still, as the night is still young.
Takaki Yuya has no regrets.
The metal spiraling past the wind, pushing through layers of the sky, swirling down to the terra firma in massive speed. Blaring alarms tumultuous, however the pulsation of his heart are even more deafening. His eyes gaze towards what’s in front of him, his mind however, bereft of anything but who he'll be leaving behind. The meaning of life, motivations, memories, everything, everything, everything.
Howls, yells, cries.
Panic, fright, horror.
One may not be able to distinguish anymore, all of those things disorganized and become a jumble of mess, however mixed together like a glove to form a sense of acceptance. Of what’s to come, of what’s to go. Amidst this debris of catastrophe, he lays his eyes on the person beside him - finding it easy for his lips to curl into a small smile. Everyone around them comport themselves in such a way that resembles a violent affray, however aware of the tragedy that doesn’t befall them, but the rest of the populations of earth.
It’s easy to die, he supposes, as the plane comes spiraling down while gaining momentum. It’s easy to leave this world, but what would become of those - who he will leave behind?
He blindly grasps for the shuddering hand that rests upon the armrest of the aircraft, whose trepidation and confusion jumbled together, manifested clearly on the features of his lover. His fingers fit perfectly with his lover's quivering ones, squeezing it tight in a way to contribute reassurance.
‘As we fall, we fly.’
Why does it take such a long time before crashing to the ground, he asks himself. Gravity seems to be so far away now. He briefly closes his eyes, finding it of no importance at all, because as soon as it comes to rest, so will he and the rest of one hundred and sixty other passengers.
When his eyes flutter open milliseconds later, he looks to his side once more, finding it easy to express himself with an unwavering tone.
'I love you, Inoo Kei! Will you marry me?' He half-yells, voice slightly higher as the alarms still blaring amidst them.
His lover smiles, a delicate expression sitting on his face. He leans, desperately need to feel that one last bitter kiss. However so sweet and gentle, and if everything will cease to exist, he will remember this moment even in the afterlife.
His tears are cascading down his cheeks without his consent, and he finds himself not to care in the slightest. His arms looped upon the lithe body of his shivering lover, and - if maybe, maybe, it won’t turn out this way, he would be perhaps be able to properly present the other that lone diamond ring that he’s kept inside his pocket all day long.
But even if they do leave no trace afterwards, they’ll find their way together and forever they will be. For better of for worse, till death do us part.
They're nearing earth, his oxygen mask on his lower side of the face shaking, as if with fear, but his expression shows nothing but peace. Accepting this fate, accepting the wonderfulness of being with the other during his final moment. He knows his lover is afraid. Of death, perhaps, but it's inevitable now, isn't it? Especially when they're falling, albeit slowly, right onto the mouth of extermination. But it's okay, he wanted to say, it's okay now.
A second later,
it crashes,
And then-
zero.

A/N: This morning, I received saddening news that an AirAsia plane (QZ 8501) has been missing. The plane which route was from Surabaya - Singapore had disappeared from the radar, after the pilot had requested to deviate from the flight path due to the dreadful weather. I’m still mourning for everyone's loss even now, thinking of families who are now sobbing in agony, lamenting for their loved ones who were on the plane. 162 souls, gone - proving the importance of our existence, how little time we have with our loved ones, how unforeseen it is - for one to vanish from this world, in a matter of seconds. Physically gone, but they will be in everyone's hearts for as long as the grounds we live in remain. It could be because of the faulty weather, or even a mere human error - nobody knows, however the cost has been indescribably great in amount. My thoughts go out to the families, friends, or lovers of those who were on the plane. Cherish your loved ones, while you still can, because you will never know, how much time we have left, or theirs.
Stay strong, Indonesia.
