so tonight, my family & i did our weekly run to hellmart aka walmart. when i was in the oral care department, i saw an older woman just sitting in one of the gimp walmart powered wheelchairs. she wasn't going anywhere. she was seriously just sitting in the chair, fiddling with it a bit. so i went up to her & asked her what was wrong & it turns out that it died on her. so i told her that i would be more than happy to see if they had any more so i went up to the front, grabbed one, & rode it back to her. i got her situated in it, put all her groceries in it, & told her to have a good night. such a nice woman, sweet as could be. it's a shame that no one else stopped to help her though.
then we were walking out of the store. everyone but my dad & i had went ahead to the car so we were messing with the baskets. when we were loading up the jeep, i saw an older man pushing his cart full of about a dozen boxes of coke. i watched him go up to the stop sign [which was two spaces down from us], then turn around & head back. so when he got by me, i asked him if he needed any help. he told me that he was looking for his vehicle, but couldn't remember what he was driving. he told me that he would be fine & started walking away. well, we got the jeep loaded up & headed down the lane when i saw him still walking. he had left his basket- still full of the cokes- & was walking down the lane. so i got out, asked him if i could look at his keys so we would know what he was driving. my dad parked the jeep & pushed the old man's cart for him while i listened for the car alarm. we found his truck, helped him load it, & he thanked us & invited us out to his 29 acre area out on the river. lol. wonderful man. i just hope that he's okay. guy like that shouldn't be left out alone. someone could easily have taken advantage of him.
my dad said he was proud of me for helping people. i thought that was sweet, & it meant a lot.
all that to say, it was a really nice feeling to be able to help a couple of people. i wish more people were like that. i love talking to older people. i could do it for hours. hence why, apart from my degree, i'm going to be getting a certificate in animal therapy. basically, it's where they train you & your animal [usually a dog] to go out & interact with people such as the disabled or sick or elderly. something to get them involved, you know? i'm also planning on volunteering this summer at the nursing home. i want to do some good for some older people. something that will make them realize that someone still cares about them.
