hmm this is how i do it: you need to upload them into a flickr or photobucket account (or something similar) and then go in, right click on the picture. click 'properties', copy the location url. in livejournal, you need to type: < img src="photo.jpg" (paste the url into that space)
take out the space between '<' and 'img src' and after you've written the url, close the tag with a > I can't write it out on here cos it just gets turned into HTML and doesn't appear :(
To get where your photo is stored, you can right click and select properties, copy and past the address that appears there. Photobucket already gives you the tag and html, you just need to copy and paste it in to the image tag above.
Flikr makes it easy though. If you click on where is say's view all sizes (or something), you can select what sixe you're looking for and it will give you the html, and all you need to do is copy and paste it.

And replace [] with <>
