Week 29 "Milkshake Duck"

I have used all three prompts in each of the triple-prompt entries, including this one. For Gary’s purposes, the prompt for this story is “milkshake duck,” which I have not designated as an entry's prompt before.

THE BOUNTY HUNTERA duck milkshake, properly made, is creamy, frosty cold, and has a real kick at the end. It goes down easy and for many ( Read more... )

I laughed until I threw up in my mouth a little (or was that just the effect of the opening?) - of course Death would have two of those milkshakes.

I really enjoyed this, I've gotta say. This story is like the epitome of your style; I always like your treatment of fantastic elements, and you're so good at building characters in such a short space!

"I laughed until I threw up in my mouth a little" -- now that is a high compliment! Maybe some time I can write something that will make you throw up all the way. I also appreciate the rest of your comment. If I could type one of those blush things, I would. Coming from a writer of your abilities, it means a lot to me.

Having people throw up at the beginning of a story is probably risky, but it ended with saving a baby's life, so I guess that balances out. A duck milkshake probably not stay long in my stomach, but I'm not Death. Thank you so much for your comment.

I haven't written about Death before, so I'm glad it worked for you. He isn't evil, like Satan; he's just a skeleton in charge of gathering souls at their appointed time. I'm glad you liked it.

That opener feels like a doomlet kicking me in the stomach! Subjecting the reader to that bit of playful malice set the right tone for this darkly whimsical jaunt. Nicely done!

The openings to some stories hit the reader like a punch to the stomach. I went a different way. The milkshake duck is, when properly made, revolting. Of course, it's revolting when poorly made, too. It's an all-purpose emetic. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
