How do you help that special someone thats basically seems to be getting continually knocked down and kicked by the universe. She's feeling horribly trapped today, and the circumstances are keeping us apart agains our wills :(

I don't know. That's a hard place to be, when all you can do is stand and watch. Just be there for her. Tell her how wonderful she is, and that, hopefully, this will all pass. Never say "it can't get any worse" because the universe loves to make a liar out of people that say that.
