Let me know when you plan on doing the shore thing, because I'd like to jump in on that shit (I think I mentioned wanting to join with you on that too). I went to Coney Island once a REALLY long time ago when my dad was working in the city. So I don't remember it. But there's pretty decent Amtrak prices from Lancaster to NY so if you wanted you could drive here, and we can take a train up. Either way I'm interested.
I don't know why it didn't post my previous reply... :C
Anyway, that sounds awesome! The only thing I'd do different is have you meet me at the Paoli station, since I wouldn't want to drive southwest to Lancaster just to go back northeast to New York. Amtrack only has one stop on NY (Penn Station), so I'd also have to figure out the subway schedule, but that might still beat out driving up to Brooklyn in the green goblin. I'll have to research it more, and I'll start planning after school is done. It's going to be EPIC.
Whatever works. I figure it'll be a lot cheaper to take the train because of parking so you don't have to worry about the stress/money of driving around in NY. When do you finish school? (Today is my official last day of classes but things done OMG end till Sat after the show).
I have class this Friday, then next Monday. No finals, just because I happened to take two classes that had final projects instead. So next week or the week after I should be able to start planning. The train is $96 from Paoli to NY, one way, so it's pretty expensive, but I don't know how much parking/gas would add up to. Plus, I can't put monetary value on the stress of driving with New Yorkers. As long as you're okay with that price, I think I might be.
I think that sounds like a really lovely summer plan. :) Michael and I are actually going to Wildwood this summer (we weren't sure if we'd be able to since he's gone back to school, but his classes work around it.) His parents, brother and brother's family are all going so we'll be joining them as a big "family" group. I'm excited as I've barely gone on maybe five vacations in my entire life, so it should be a fun time. :) Not looking forward to the 8+ hour car drive though.
Ack, I can't fathom such a long drive to the Jersey Shore! People around here make a day trip out of it a lot. Have you ever been to Wildwood before? It lives up to its name - of all the shoretowns I've been to, it's definitely the craziest, but not in a bad way (that would be Atlantic City). I'm still not sure what town I want to go to, but it'll probably be good ol OCNJ as per usual since I have a gift certificate from one of the hotels there... which I think I deleted out of my inbox... crap... Anyway! I'll probably just go with whatever's cheapest at this point.
I know, I have trouble fathoming that long of a drive period haha. I'm one of those wussies who tends to get terribly car sick when they're not in the front seat, so sitting in the back for 8+ hours makes me a bit nervous. I'll just have to take enough dramamine to knock out a cow.
I haven't! But Michael grew up in New Jersey very close to there, so his family used to go there constantly while growing up and then continued to do so even once he moved to Western PA. For everyone else it will be same-old same-old, but new for me. The only beach I've ever been to in my life was Virginia Beach when I was 9, so I think it should be neat
( ... )
Wildwood is nuts, but in a good way! Honestly, most Jersey towns aren't about the beach as much as they're about the boardwalk. I don't know about his family in particular, but most people I know tend to spend short periods of time on the beach, and longer periods on the boardwalk and around town. Plus, there's tons of amusement piers, if you're feeling a little death defying. I know none of those things keep you out of the sun, but I find it way more interesting at least than just sitting there frying yourself.
