I had a kind of epiphany tonight. I was re-visiting an old friend (re-reading a book for the umpteenth time) set in Ireland. And, as always, I was yearning to pick up and drop myself into the story. One MAJOR advantage that our twisty-turney roads have over those in Ireland is that they are more than a lane and a half wide for 2-way traffic. I hitchhiked through Ireland about 10 years ago, and it was a bit nervewracking to be walking down those roads hemmed in by hedges with nowhere to go, and have a tiny car or truck barrel by at 50 miles an hour without being able to see you until he's right on top of you. Of course, half the time that one DID see you, they'd pick you up (even if you weren't thumbing). Nice folks there!
