Aberystwyth is in the news today because the town's first screening of Monty Python's The Life of Brian has attracted quite a bit of attention.. Apparently there are still a handful of religious fanatics vehemently opposed to it, which is amusing. Props to Gareth for getting the film and the special guests together including Michael Palin. Nice to see that Sky's joining the long line of organisations willing to overlook the film's screening in Aber back in 1981 for the sake of a good story :)

And let's be fair about this: two years for a film to reach the Commodore... that's not really outside their usual timescales, is it? There seems to be some debate in some quarters as to whether it was actually banned and the council confirmed a couple of years ago that there was no legal bar to the film being shown, so it was interesting to hear the mayor suggest she could be locked up for arranging the screening, but to be fair I may well have done the same for the purposes of spinning a good yarn :)

A misplaced earful, of course, as I've never had a problem with the Commodore's acquisitions, which I'm aware are sometimes remarkably prompt (but then, that wouldn't have allowed a sarcastic comment, so clearly it had to be ignored for the sake of my post).

In any case, if I had a problem with films reaching the cinema slightly after their official release I probably wouldn't have gone to see Westworld the other night, so we'll assume I was just being a facetious git again :D
