The new gear

Until recently my main computer had been a Mac Pro workstation packing a quad 2.8GHz Xeon and bristling with RAM and hard drives. A true behemoth, solid, large and very heavy. That's some pretty funky low-power hardware in that new Mini. I spent the first sentence of the second paragraph going "[yawn]; yeah, those specs aren't so hot..." until I got to the power consumption. Pretty impressive.

Aye, it's no slouch though. Pulls about 9600 in the 64bit Geekbench score. Mind you after you get an SSD you quickly realise the limiting factor in most computers is their slow old hard drives rather than their CPUs.

Aye, I know: I've been using an SSD for my primary boot drive for a couple of years, now - huge boost, especially to OS loading.
