iPad 3 review

I’ve been using a 1st generation iPad since before they were officially available in the UK back in April 2010 and I love it. Now with the announcement of the 3rd generation model it’s time for an upgrade. I've heard that the resolution of the retina display causes apps to become much larger in size and that the 16 GB model can become quite cramped opposed to before. In that sense, I think it's a drawback that there's no SD card support, except what external dongles might bring, which're never gonna be form fitting.
My brother's a big apple fan, so he's probably thinking about getting one sometime soon.
Me, I'm currently waiting to see that rumored google tablet for $149. I don't require it to be powerful, so the lack of HD and probably relatively slow GFX/CPU are alright with me. So as long as it can become an extension of my computer at home, which I think is really neat. What daunts me the most about getting into more Apple products is how it's essentially a seperate ecosystem from everything I've used before and pricey at that. Am I just behind the times?

It's true that apps which use lots of bitmap graphics will be larger when they're optimised for the retina display, whether that's so much as to cause a problem depends on lot on the number of apps, what they are, how much other media you want on there etc. My 1st gen iPad is 16GB and currently has about 4GB of apps on it, if I doubled that to 8GB I'd still have a decent amount of room left but I'd have to take a few less songs around with me ( ... )
