I definitely agree with your Top 2--it's actually kinda hard to decide who did better, Chris or Elliott. Chris' "Renegade" was absolutely amazing, but his "I Dare You" was simply good. Elliott just blew me away on "Home" but his first song was just okay to good. So they averaged out to about the same.
However, I thought Paris was the absolute worst last night. I hated her doing "Kiss" by Prince, because, honestly, no one can do it as well as Prince does. And again, that was her problem with "Be Without You"--no one can do it like Mary J. Blige does. That, and she flubbed the lyrics in a couple of places, which always grates on my nerves. If you're gonna sing a song, get the lyrics right, y'know.
Considering I didn't know either song to well that Paris did that would actually change my ratings knowing that she messed up the lyrics. I am not a Prince or Mary J Blige fan. I will make a correction. Thanks for pointing that out to me. ;)
Chris and Elliott were hard for me to rank. The only reason that I put Elliott on top were his version of home gave me goose bumps when I heard him sing it. Also I didn't know either of Chris' songs last night well enough to know how well he sang them compared to how they were orginally sang.
I think part of the thing with Paris, too, is that she just gets on my nerves for some reason. I'm not sure what it is, but I think that it's that she comes across as a little girl playing dress up, y'know.
Elliott's version of "Home" was very, very good. Chris did a good job with "Renegade"--it was one of those moments where Jonathan and I just looked at each other and were like, "Wow. He just rocked out to some Styx." "I Dare You" really hasn't gotten all *that* much airplay--it definitely isn't Shinedown's biggest hit to date--but it's a good song. I almost wish he'd done something else, though, because there are a lot of good rock/alt rock songs on the radio right now.
I agree with Chris. Renegade was good. I had never heard I Dare You but liked it. I think he would have done better with a bit more popular billboard hit.
I think it's Paris's time to go...I really like her, but she was the worst last night..No one motivated me to vote though, so I can't complain.
I'm hoping Elliot goes home tonight and here's why: I think he took the least risk with his song choice. He picked 2 songs that were not a stretch for him..And yes, he did sing them well, but I still have no idea what his style is. Paris was very, very brave to pick a Prince and a Mary J Blige song and I think she should stay for that. Chris could have picked a very popular modern rock song like Nickelback, but he chose to go with something less popular. Taylor had to know he would look ridiculous doing "Play that funky music", and he should stay for that reason alone. I've never been a fan of Katharine's, and I really don't like the song "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree", but she really did great. It was by far my favorite performance of hers. She's so much better when she's not trying to over sing. (just like Taylor is)
