I had two hours to kill and was in a weird mood.
So I decided to create an Existentialist's Dictionary and Guide, with pictures and diagrams.
For now, I hope to define a few words, one for every letter of the alphabet. I will probably stop at the letter C.
Avant Garde(n): Art that would not be a success unless it were labeled as such. Best employed jointly with Ironic and Absurd and Hat. Note: Take care with this word! Frivolous application will make you appear less like an intelligent existentialist and more like an avid Calvin and Hobbes reader. Use sparingly, and only during the closing of a sale.
Example:
Figure 1: Pug Dog Wearing Hat (Misery in Spring), oil on canvas, 2006.
Art Collector: What the hell is this? An ugly dog in an ugly hat?!
Artist: It's an ironic dog.
Collector: I won't pay thousands of dollars for an ironic dog wearing an ugly hat!
Artist: Oh, nononono, good sir! The ironic dog is wearing a deliciously absurd hat.
C: I do not understand.
A: The dog knows not its own failures.
C: I'm sorry?
A: The avant garde pastiche is divine!
C: I see... how many of these do you have on hand?
A: A bajillion skillion.
C: Sold! I will take them all.
