Thank you for posting that. I'm always surprised and disappointed how little political awareness I see on my friends page.
Anyhow, some background on the author: Andrew Sullivan has run a blog for several years. While he was once seen as staunchly conservative, he was openly gay and criticized the Republicans harshly when Bush started talking about the no-gay-marriage amendment. That and his opposition to torture has also put him at odds with conservative pundits, who now denounce him and his message.
Was this the same press conference where Rumsfeld tried to change the common media name of the resistance in Iraq from "insurgents" (because it gave them too much legitamacy) to "enemies of the legitimate Iraqi government"?
btw, Robin also sent me this interesting article about Alito and the Supreme court and how that fits in with this administration's thing about the war on terror and the role of torture.

General Pace: "It is absolutely the responsibility of every U.S. service member, if they see inhumane treatment being conducted, to intervene to stop it"
Rumsfeld: "But I don't think you mean they have an obligation to physically stop it; it's to report it."
General Pace: "If they are physically present when inhumane treatment is taking place, sir, they have an obligation to try to stop it."
