"See, I Told You So."

President Obama is going to unite the country: Barring a miracle, he's going to unite the country in believing there are things that government should not do. For those on the left who like the idea of universal health insurance (single-payer), the chance of that passing is evaporating day-by-day. The failure of ObamaCare will cause no sane ( Read more... )

Obamacare: it's here to stay. Maybe open enrollment will be delayed a few months. But MILLIONS of people who don't have insurance now are trying to sign on. The "status quo ante" with preexisting conditions and millions of people with no coverage will never be viable again.

I have no idea where you're getting "millions of people...are trying to sign on." That's just not true. One of the few exchanges that's working is Washington (state). There have been 35,000 enrollments. To get to one million (let alone millions) would take 28.6 Washington states.

And unless something drastically changes, ObamaCare is doomed from math. For the plan to work, millions of healthy individuals must enroll to subsidize those who aren't healthy and are newly enrolling. In the Washington state enrollment, per this CBS report, 87% of those enrolling are on Medicaid. Who will pay for those?

You might be surprised to know that one option I think that would work is single-payer. However, I expect--and am now close to certain--that the disaster of ObamaCare will poison the environment for single payer for years (probably decades) to come. There is no chance of single-payer passing in our lifetime. (Note: I'm not saying single-payer is the best option; rather, it's an option that can work.)

On my tax blog I noted the ... )

Without commenting on accuracy (I have no basis) Marc is saying millions *trying* to sign on, you're saying 35k enrollments in one of a few states that have it working. Those are not necessarily contradictory. So the statement you have given does not refute his.

You can quibble about numbers. but there are many people who are looking to Ocare to provide them with insurance they've never had and can't get.insisting on repeal without offering something to help those people (like single payer) is morally reprehensible. Rooting for failure of the law is the equivalent of hoping to see a plane crash. It's selfish and not very nice.

Tru dat. Supposedly, the 800 number has worked fairly well for signing up. There is also this great video that I'll dig out if I have time where a guy signed up for obamacare via healthcare.gov and then tried to sign up for insurance through united healthcare (or some other big provider's site). Let's just say, despite taking an hour to get signed up, Obamacare won about as easily as Notre Dame did yesterday against Air Force.

I also think all these newspaper articles written by laymen for laymen about the technical issues with healthcare.gov are laughable. The site's performance has already been vastly improved and just because there may be weeks/months/years of work on it doesn't mean it's not going to be usable. Heck, our product has been out for 2 years and has years of work ahead of it and hundreds of customer bugs reported. I suspect facebook has had the backend rewritten several times. Yay, software.

No. You are missing the point. Bad website means Obamacare is doomed and must be abandoned. Plus Obama should be impeached and required to set himself on fire on the White House lawn.

You must be reading the facebook feed of an old friend of mine who is a gun tottin' tea partier who makes Russ seem like a bleeding heart liberal. It's quite impressive the gaps in logic he and some of his other friends display. My personal favorite is when he bitches about the debt constantly, but is dead set against any defense cuts (he actually thinks we need to spend more) or tax increases. I keep tweaking him that that just shows he's not serious about the debt as a problem.
