Pa ha, I give up reading a bit after I get all confused. I'm all like, WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE TALKING ABOUT? SCROLL SAW WHAT?

But I always flip through and look at the pictures.

Maybe I should include better pictures of the equipment, then? I'm not supposed to be confusing, the judges are going to need to be able to make sense of this. *fret*

A scroll saw basically has a small, thin blade that goes up and down at whatever speed you set it at in the same place. You move the board around relative to the moving blade to cut at it. Um, if that makes any sense?

I'm just too lazy to understand, honestly. It's one of my worst faults.

Wahh, I'm so envious of nice!and!spacious!(mainly to say square)!tech!rooms! Just not fair, is it, living in hobbit-land. :( And loudspeakers! I wish we had loud speakers in the middle of classes...:/ I didn't really imagine cutting out boards so...*normally* though. Mind you< I've never actually seen the building of a viola from scratch, so, I wouldn't really know.

Ohh- what type of polish?

ROTFL, really, the shop I usually work in is an absolute sty. I mean... every time I go there I have to spend at least fifteen minutes trying to clear off a spot to work, and then I have to try and find my stuff... right now I'm actually carving the convex side, and I just bring my own chisel, hammer and c-clamp because I know it'll take me ages to find it in there. Plus, supervisors are generally doing their own thing, they can't watch me the whole time and help me find stuff. The school shop is tidy and pretty, but I was only there once. I can't say that I prefer it, though, it's... not as homey. *likes messy places ( ... )

rawr, isn't varnish teh whole!important!to!quality! thing?

-isn't thinking properly. *headache*-

...varnish doesn't effect sound quality. :P Varnish is primarily to protect the wood from moisture etc. Beyond that, it's just vanity. So really you need to have varnish, but there's no reason to choose one color varnish or another, that's all just vanity. It's not like some colors have speshul protection powers or anything and others don't.

*hugs* Hopefully headache will go away? (I haven't been feeling too well myself, to be honest.)

Awesome. I didn't know that you guys actually did all of this and play your instruments. I really want to learn how to play the violin (and/or piano) now. We have most of those tools at my school and at my home too. XD I think you did a wonderful job on this - can't wait to see more about this!

It's a lot of work... I thought it was going to be a huge project going into it but even now it's like... URGH. Like I just spent the last hour in the garage chiseling at that piece. It's absolutely unbelievable how much work this thing is... It gives you a lot of respect for luthiers, at the very least, and an understand as to why good instruments cost so much. :P

I wouldn't take this sort of thing lightly, though - if you want to do this sort of thing it's a lot to ask of yourself and of whoever helps you out. But I think it's going to be worth it, too. :D

Ah, no worries. When it comes to doing hard work or manual labor, I am a total addict. XD I wish you luck with it - I know it will be amazing when you finish it! And from what you have said, I have a respect for them already.

As for learning how to play, it's not like I want to go and be famous or whatever. I want to learn because I want to be able to make something people can feel. People say I draw really well, but making a drawing isn't that deep (or at least the ones I make) and my paintings aren't that deep either.

*nodnod* I'm trying to learn how to play viol and it's... I dunno. I'm respectable at flute, notlike I'm going to major or anything, but I play well enough for myself. But viola... I'm not good enough at it yet just to please myself. I've hit this annoying ceiling, I'm beating at it right now with lots of practicing but it's not... working. *sad* More practice then.

With other things, too. I love doodling, but they're all absolutely terrible. I want to have fun with them, but I also want to become respectable. Which... well, that's practice. Practice practice practice. And learning from others - I mean, not that I'm all that decent at photography, but I've improved so much from both commentary from other people and from really looking closely at other folks' at DA. So yeah. [/ramble]

*remembers that she still needs to post some random!awful!doodles* *pokes self*

i stare a lot at the pretty pictures. you know, that video is really showing. it feels strange watching it from my room, since the atmosphere could easily be replaced by one of our empty buildings here.

"pun intended" lulz

It shall be prettier once I stop banging at it with a chisel. Now it's all... sharp and pokey and uneven and sad because it's not Finished.
