I've been trying to tell you all that Phil isn't a groundhog; he's some warrior from a prior life whose home/lands/castle/women Ry plundered and pillaged and left to die in pitiful defeat. He is simply sent from the gods to test Ryan's endurance, patience and sanity. Obviously winning since Ry is fondly considering the use of Sally.
