Could it be a cyst behind the teeth that has gotten infected? That's pretty rare. The fever definitely says infection to me.

The problem with infections in the face/jaw is that they very quickly spread around. You may end up with a throat infection/tonsil issues. You may end up with an infection in the ear canal. You may end up with problems in the lymph nodes. Basically, none of it is good. Hopefully they can get the fever and level of disturbance down, and then see if there's some underlying cause. It could just be a bug wreaking havoc throughout the area. I wish your dad good luck and speedy recovery.
